Move - Shift - Slide... the differences

I've read others commenting on the different types of movement and wondering why there are so many terms for the same thing.
I think it's because they have key differences:
MOVE is your normal movement, subject to normal restrictions (such as OAs)
SHIFT is a movement option (usually only one square) that does not provoke OAs
SLIDE is movement forced upon another model out of turn (most likely provokes OAs)

Probably others as well. Great call to have specific names for these.

In the Miniatures game, Slide specifically does not provoke. And given the sort of ridiculousness you can accomplish by slide a character through multiple threat ranges, I think it's likely to stay that way in the minis game.

Also included in DDM are PUSH and PULL. They function like slide, but you have to move the target toward you or away from you respectively.

To rephrase it:
MOVE is voluntarily movement that provokes OA*.
SHIFT is voluntarily movement that does not provoke OAs
SLIDE is involuntarily movement initiated by others that does _not_ provoke OAs.

LOL to your sign, Reaper Steve? :)

*) Why is everyone out to annoy Oriental Adventures? ;)

Sliding opponents is so anime.
