MPG1 or WMV?

I will be purchasing two video clips for use on a multi-media computer. I am really ignorant on audio formats so I was wondering which format is universal and can be used with Windows Media Player: MPG1 or WMV? Thanks!

Both MPG and WMV can be read by a Windows Multimedia Player.

WMV is specific to Windows MP. MPG is much more universal.

Another significant difference is that WMV files tend to be a lot "lighter" in terms of bytes than MPG files.
