The man, Lt. Dan Jeffries, is the usual officer that briefs you on your missions. He is well known for his blunt, by-the-book attitude. He gestures for you to sit at the large rectangular table in the center of the room; with each of you on the same side. He sits on the opposite side of the table & punches a few keys on the built in keyboard as a low hum signals that the large plasma screen on the wall behind the lieutenant has come ‘on-line’. Lt. Jeffries doesn’t bother with any salutations as he gets up & walks over to the plasma screen & begins laying out the mission (a satellite image of a large factory surrounded by a small town appears on the plasma screen), “This,” he gestures to the picture, “is Parasol, Georgia; so named after the company that bought the land under the Corporate Lands’ Act of 2039. Like many companies that bought parcels of U.S. soil from the government, they produce many products for the government as well as doing many ‘special projects’ for the government. Eighteen hours ago, an agent contacted the HSO & reported an incident of ‘global significance’ had occurred within the Parasol research facility. Ten hours ago, Alpha team was sent in to investigate once this occurred.” Your attention is drawn to the plasma screen as you notice what appears to be a black spherical something covering the perimeter of the Parasol facility. You are surprised that the satellite cannot penetrate this darkness as it seems to swallow any light sources---also, it obscures all ground detail. Lt. Jeffries points to the north side of the town as a new satellite picture loads upon the screen (its noticable that the sphere of inky blackness has gotten larger---also, several vehicles are leaving the town, headed toward the gate that allows one to exit Parasol’s ‘land’), “Seven hours ago, Alpha team landed & deployed their vehicle & headed into town.
