Multi Attribute Disease - MAD Clerics

Do you think clerics NEED so many high stats?

  • Yeah sure, the class is too weak otherwise! I love DMM!

Personally, I think all classes should specifically benefit from high scores in multiple stats, which (except in the case of high point buys or lucky stat rolls) would lead to a wider variety of characters for each class.
I agree.

Sure, clerics aren't quite as simple as fighters when it comes to stats, but it's not so bad:

My clerics often look like this:
Str: Either prime or secondary
Dex: Dump stat. depending on choice of armour, this is usually a 10 or 12 (just enough to get to the armours max dex)
Con: Decent Secondary
Int: Another dump stat. Usually no more than 12 (often 10)
Wis: Either prime or secondary
Cha: Good Secondary

Int and Dex can almost be ignored outright. Either Str or Wis gets a high stat, the other, as well as Con and Cha get decent scores.

A half-ogre/Barbarian 1/Cleric 11 IMC can fill just about any role except offensive caster and skill monkey. Really, I don't think clerics are suited to those two roles anyway. He isn't as good as the PCs who focus on their individual schtick, though, just good enough to fill those roles if he wants to at the time.

Of course, the cleric's biggest weakness is that if someone is getting pounded, the consequences of, for example, attacking the enemy is rarely worth it. They generally have no choice but to fall back on healing.

There are no MAD Clerics, just Clerics of MAD Deities.

Yeah, those poor dieties often need 3 or more high ability scores to do their job properly. Sharess, for example, doesn't only need Charisma, but a lot Dexterity and Constitution to boot! :p
