Multicolored Dragons

I did this a while back. I took the stats of the two colors of the age I was going for and averaged them. The breath weapon was half and half. (half fire damage, half acid, or whatever)

The Legends and Lairs Monster Handbook had templates for cross-breed dragons as well.

*nod* what Crothian said - there was stuff in the 2nd ed Draconomicon about crossbreed dragons. The system, once boiled down really came down to just picking and choosing what abilities from the parrents the offspring got. For this example, wyrmling red abilities or wyrmling green abilities? Next age category do the same thing and so on. Average the stats between the two parrents to get a baseline for the hybrid type.

Have the breath weapon do Half Acid / Half Fire. It's a troll's worst nightmare, heh. Nice image though - sticky corrosive burning stuff. Cloud or cone of napalm basically.

I'm at home now, and able to look up my copy of The Slayer's Guide to Dragons. In it, Gary says a red/green crossbreed results in a russet dragon, with breath weapon options of:

a) cone of fire, like a red dragon
b) cloud of corrosive gas, like a green dragon
c) either breath weapon at will, each time it breathes
d) a flaming, cone-shaped inferno of burning gasses causing 1d10 fire damage and 1d6 gas damage per age category of the dragon

Take your pick!

Red......................Green
frilled head/back.....frilled ears
red scales.............green scales
lava eyes..............emrald eyes
short neck.............long neck
long wingspand.......shorter wingspan
chaotic evil............lawful evil
fire breath.............acid breath
fire subtype...........air subtype
30 ft cone*...........20 ft cone*

*Those are based off wyrmling age. Red dragons breathe weapon are better an are 10ft longer than greens... but that range goes up 10ft per 3 age level..

So anyway, once I had the two columns down with what I wanted, I would get a coin and go down the list and flip the coin for each thing. Red will be heads, green tails... kinda like seeing which DNA strand is dominate.

Hope that helps.

That certainly does. I love random stuff... I'm definitely going for the look of it this way. Thanks! :)

For the stats bit I think the average that several people were suggesting. I figure the size is going to have a pretty big impact on how dangerous the beast is - will do that one by eye, when I've figured out how lethal I need it to be.

That's the mechanics and the look of the breath weapon solved. That's so nasty!

I did something similar with a blue/shadow dragon and my players freaked out. Watch out for the insurrection and "cheater!" cries you'll face.

I'm definitely going to get out the riot version of my gm screen :) They've only got themselves to blame - they want new and different then they're going to get it!

At some point I really need to get the Draconomicon and Savage Species...

Thanks for the help... I'll post it over in the Rogues gallery when I've finished it.

The HD and size of a blue dragon , pick the spells it has from what reds or greens normally get, and the breath weapon is a firey acid[ if it has the persistant breath feat then think hydrocloric napalm]

Surely this would just be a bit like mixing poster paints at nursery?

After a couple of generations, do you not end up with muddy-brown dragons?
