Multiple Saves or One?

With something like a gas, I'd make them take one save. Its not like they are getting three seperate doses, just that the area of effect is larger. If there's a whole lot of them in a small area, I'd treat it with a circumstance penalty.

What book is the ghast in? I'd like to take a look at it.

Monster Manual, in the Ghoul entry.

It's also in the SRD.

Thanks. :)

I'm inclined to say that they only make one save if the areas overlap.

kreynolds,

You don't know this already?

Know what? Of the Ghast? Nah. I haven't used them in any of games yet, and I've never encountered one in a game either (and after reading them, I hope I never do ;)).

Technically it would be 3 saves, but it would make more sense for it to be a single save and increase the area, or possibly increase the DC if it's in a confined area.

I always make separate checks when I think the consequences of winning/losing the check should affect PCs one by one, and one check for all when success/failure of one brings consequences to all.

E.g.
- individual listen checks not to be surprised for combat
- one whole listen check to notice an unusual noise (if the one who hears it can simply communicate about it with the others)

Now that I think, it never happened to me to make collective saving throws instead; I think they are very individual.

Anyway, if we agree on making a single ST in some occasion, then I guess you mean ONE SINGLE THROW but INDIVIDUAL RESULTS, so that for example a roll of 15 against DC 15 becomes a failure for all the PCs with a negative modifier. Please tell me you don't mean that all the pcs fail or succeed? :)
