Mundane Treasure Items

Beyond what you find on page 56 of the DMG, what ordinary, non-magical items do your players' characters find in the treasure hoards they seize?

Something I have used to good effect is collectables, i.e. items that are worth more to a specific collector than its intrinsic value would indicate. For example, pottery figurines, medals, ancient armour, certain coins, etc. I allow the PCs to just sell them as usual, but they can get a better price if they take time to hunt down an appropriate collector. And, of course, this provides handy plot hooks, or follow-me's.

For example, in a dragon hoard the PCs found a platinum statuette of an unusual angelic-like person. Obviously quite valuable in its own right, but digging around the bard discovered that it constituted stolen antiquities. Further, if they returned it to the city from which it had been stolen, they would receive a sizeable reward from the local museum. The difference in value was enough for them to make the long journey, and I had a good excuse to drop them into an adventure at the new locale.

I re-did the first 50 Mundane Bonus Items in my article, above. I might re-do the last 50, if there's still any interest. If not, I think I'll skip all the work! :p

I really like the Giants' Bags sidebar on page 120 of the Monster Manual 3.5. It's got some stuff on there that PCs might want, like 87-93, a Tinderbox, but there's also a bunch of silly, capricious stuff, like 11-14, a working, scale replica of an Apache helicopter gunship.

WTF? You're joking...? Please, you're joking?

11-14 on the Giant's Bag table is "Hand held chopper", which has always meant an axehead or the like for cleaving small stuff like meat, not a miniature helicopter. He's making a very bad joke.
