Music in your sessions?

Oh, btw, one of the greatest fights I ever participated as a player in was orchestrated to "Smack my B*tch up" by The Prodigy.

And I have used an iPod with speakers for when we didn't play at my home so far.

I agree that sci-fi and fantasy movie soundtracks are a good choice for D&D adventures. The soundtrack I highly recommend, though, hasn't been mentioned yet. It's Passion, Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ; it's a stunningly good fit with fantasy gaming.

I also recommend most of Loreena McKennit's albums as incidential music in games, especially, Parallel Dreams (but only tracks 1-5, 8), The Visit, The Mask & the Mirror and The Book of Secrets. One song that stands alone as an excellent gaming song (and indeed the basis for a god, prestige class or who knows what) is Tom Waits' Black Wings on Bone Machine.

too east to forego

I usually play & DM at someone else's house; so I too find it too much to remember to carry CDs along with everything else. Our usual host has cable music channels, and I like techno/electronica for the energy it gives me when I DM.

I do like several movie soundstracks for gaming in a perfect world, though:

Conan the Barbarian
Braveheart
Judge Dredd
Star Wars
Predator 2 (this one I put to very good effect in a modern alien hunt session)

I've also got the D&D CD by Midnight Syndicate. I think I'll try that this week since it may be one of the rare occasions when I DM at home.

I use these scores:

Requiem for a Dream; Batman; Braveheart; Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (by far, the best movie and the best score of the HP movies); Return of the King; The Two Towers; The Fellowship of the Ring; Quigley Down Under; Pirates of the Carribean.

I ocassionally use these albums as background music in bars, taverns, city streets, and other useful flavor-situations:

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Little Worlds; Dave Matthews Band - Before These Crowded Streets; Phish - Picture of Nectar; Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon; Led Zeppelin - I, II, III, & IV; Radiohead - OK Computer

But mostly I use the scores above.

Try Evanescense, Kitaro (Japanese Instrumental Composer) and new
band called Nightwish. They have a heavy sound mixed with some operatic
lyrics. Also check out Midnight Syndicate. They did the D&D soundtrack and
have about 3 other CD's. Realm of Shadows is pretty good.
