[Music] Spycraft Soundtrack

Mortaneus

First Post
I've been putting together a music CD for my spycraft game, and am looking for good tunes to put on it. Here's what I have so far:

Carnival - Tori Amos (MI2 soundtrack)
Scum of the Earth - Rob Zombie (MI2)
Nyah - Hans Zimmer (spanish dance music from MI2)
Secret Agent Man
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
Out of My Mind - Duran Duran (from the Saint)
The World is Not Enough - Garbage
Take a Look Around - Limp Bizkit (MI2)
I Disappear - Metallica (MI2)
James Bond Theme - Moby
Mission Impossible Theme - Moby
Click Click Boom - Saliva
Spy Hunter Theme (Peter Gunn) - Saliva

Any other suggestions?

There is a CD I picked up a month ago or so which has all the Bond theme songs up until The World is Not Enough. It's called The Best of Bond...James Bond.

James Bond Theme (from Dr. No)
Goldfinger
Nobody Does it Better
View to a Kill
For Your Eyes Only
We Have All the Time in the World
Live and Let Die
All Time High
The Living Daylights
License to Kill
From Russia with Love
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Moonraker
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Man with the Golden Gun
Diamonds are Forever
Goldeneye
Tomorrow Never Dies
The World is Not Enough
James Bond Theme (from TND) (by Moby)
James Bond Theme (from Goldeneye Trailer)

Does the music have to be from movie soundtracks?

You need techno. Lots and lots of techno. Primarily:

Propellerheads
Underworld
Orbital (especially the music they did for "the Saint")
If you could get ahold of it somehow, music from the pc games Command & Conquer or any of the Rainbow Six games would work well too (I think there may be soundtrack albums for some of these, or else the game cds may double as audio cds)

Just my .02

I reccommend the soundtrack to The Rock, Armageddon (the Score), Con Air, Gladiator...

What's funny is that I think most of these were done by Hans Zimmer. The guy seems to own the genre.

The Rock and Gladiator were by Zimmer, yes. Also, I reccommend anything by Harry Gregson-Williams, who did the soundtrack for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In fact, both of the Metal Gear Solid soundtracks make great spy music.

Does anyone know the name of the theme music from Alias TV series?

Kinda hoping to pick up that soundtrack.

I also think the Dark Angel soundtrack (from the FOX's short-lived show) is good, too.

One good individual song: Mike Oldfield - Mastermind. Very reminescent of the old James Bond, Mission Impossible sort of stuff. Nice guitar, too.

Alias

JJ Abrams, the creator of Alias, also wrote the theme for it. Michael Giacchino does the weekly score and his work is simply magnificent. His website has MP3 samples from the show and he's just generally a nice guy. He's also the maestro behind the "Medal of Honor" scores.

Michael Giacchino's site

I'm not personally a fan of Hans Zimmer's scores for just about anything, although I was pleasantly surprised by parts of Gladiator. Harry Gregson-Williams (sp?) also did the score for Spy Game, which is better than the movie was. John Powell's work on The Bourne Identity is solid work, too. Elias Cmirial (sp?) did the music for Ronin, which is tense sometimes, just quiet background music other times.

I'm also a snob in the category of spy music, since action scores and spy scores are not the same thing IMO. Get the red CD of Lalo Schifrin's work for the original Mission: Impossible series. "The Plot" is seminal work for the genre, perhaps second only to the theme.

Keep your ears on Paul Oakenfeld, Clint Mansell and David Holmes for super-stylish music that lands somewhere between scenes of smooth-talking and chase sequences. You also must purchase the first album from Supreme Beings of Leisue, which is something like a CD full of Bond-ian torch songs. "Under the Gun" will one day be the theme for a spy film, I think.

It is my hope that hiring David Fincher for Mission: Impossible 3 indicates a turn away from the John Woo predecessor (a movie so bad Anthony Hopkins didn't want his name on it).

word,
Will
