D&D (2024) Mussings about Small Humans

A seemingly small Change (pun intended :P ) is that Humans can be Small now. Which I do find good, but isn't it strange that DWARVES and Elfes, which are usually smaller than Humans, can only be Medium? If Humans can be Small, shouldn't have all the other races that option too? After all we are not talking about the typical size Anymore but about all possible Sizes.

Also at first glance this seems like it's just flavor, but size acutally matters. It changes what you can ride, grapple, where you can squeeze yourself into and what weapon you can wield (ok this paragraph got way more dirty than intended ;) ).

Anyway I don't have a conclusion, nor a question .. just wanted to get my mussings out there and want to know what others think about that.

I think all traditionally medium races, especially dwarves should be allowed to be small.

But then, could small races be medium?

I hope small gets some written out benefits. Right now, being able to hide more easily, squeeze better and being able to ride medium size creatures is hidden in other parts of the rules, while the disadvantages are spelled out.

Real small humans need representation. There are no real elves of any size on Earth AFAIK, so there are no small elves who need representation. OTOH elves are noted for their genetic plasticity, so if you want some small elves just place their ancestors on an island, wait a few thousand years, and come back to Keebler elf sized elves.

Those real humans may want that representation even when they're playing a character with pointy ears.

That is what gnomes and halflings and Goblins and small Ardlings and small Tieflings and probably a few more are for. These days everyone but Humans, Dwarves and Harengon have pointy ears.
