Brief History: Julian Griffiths, born and raised in the shanty town slums of Kingston, Jamaica, grew up under the protective wing of his fearsome mother, Rita, and in the shadow of his older brother and de facto father figure, Peter. Living on the edge of Rastafarianism but never quite able to accept the historical claims of that religion, Julian shared the dismay of elder Rastas as the youth of Kingston perverted the sacred herb in favor of being American-style gangstas and drug dealers. Crack cocaine and designer drugs - both the damage of the drugs themselves and violence implicit in their sale and distribution - ravaged Jamaica. The introduction of Formula X by a mysterious underworld figure known only as the Baron only made things worse.

During a police raid on a nightclub that served as one of the Baron's fronts, a fire broke out. Julian, fascinated by the rhythyms and styles of reggae, was one of the many young people caught in the chaos. Flames rages as shouts of "Fight Babylon" filled the smoke-choked air. When the flames hit the hidden stash of Formula X, things went from bad to worse. Many people died from the violence, the fire, the smoke, or the toxic cloud emitted by the burning drugs, including Julian's brother Peter. Dozens of others were injured, including Julian himself.

During his recovery, Julian discovered that somehow he has been imbued with superhuman powers. While he attributes these metahuman changes to something akin to God's Providence, the facts of the matter are somewhat more mundane. Formula X has altered Julian's genetic structure, especially the electrochemistry of his system. What Julian calls "life's energy" is a mutated form of electrochemical exchange that affects both his body as well as the bodies of others into whom Julian consciously channels said energy.

Julian and Rita have since moved to London, England, to live with Rita's sister Ruth. Julian is enrolled in classes at the Camberwell College of Arts.

GM Q & A:

Q - What do they do when they're not fighting crime?
A - Attends classes at Camberwell College of Arts, hangs out in the Snug Bar, helps his mother and Aunt Ruth with household chores and errands.

Q - What do they really care about?
A - Rita and Ruth, his only remaining family. His art.

Q - How do they keep their identity a secret?
A - Wears a green visor as a mask. Switches to Jamaican patois in hero identity and thickens up the accent a bit.

THE POSSEE

The Possee, comprised of leader Mad Skillz and his partners-in-crime Slow Moe and Tiptop, are villains for hire, ready, willing, and (in theory) able to handle a wide variety of assignments if the price is right.

Mad Skillz, skilled martial artist and scientific genius, acts as the Possee's field commander and spokesman. Despite his rap-influenced patois and homeboy exterior, Mad Skillz hails from an affluent Jewish family native to upstate New York. Seeing more profit and excitement in a life of super-crime, Mad Skillz turned black sheep of the family and has never looked back. Teleporting around the battle field on his Mad-board (a super-science skateboard), lashing out with his Mad-chuks, Mad Skillz is a foe to be reckoned with.

The muscle of the Possee is hardcore felon Slow Moe. While not that ight-bray, Slow Moe displays a chillingly casual disregard for the safety and well-being of those who stand in his way. Outfitted with super-science armor designed by Mad Skillz, Slow Moe is largely impervious to harm and capable of amphibious activity. His armor's gauntlets are equipped with kinetic converters. This weapon siphons kinetic energy from its target, transferring that energy into Slow Moe's armor. As a result, Slow Moe gains an increasingly formidable degree of super-speed.

Rounding out the Possee is Tiptop, a small-time sneak thief granted superhuman powers via "kinetic evolvement," a super-science process developed by Mad Skillz. Now able to rotate his body at amazing speeds, Tiptop spins into crime, slashing at foes with a forearm-mounted, double-edged blade.

DEATH RATTLE

Background: There are many theories as to Death Rattle's origins, but no solid answers. What seems certain is that this diminutive monster is some sort of spirit of vengeance that targets people who do harm to children. Death Rattle's growing list of victims includes abusive parents and guardians, abortionists and other child killers, pedophiles, and even a couple of pro-abortion state senators.

A veritable industry has sprung up around Death Rattle. Unscrupulous merchants market Death Rattle toys, T-shirts, and trading cards featuring Death Rattle's victims. There is currently a Death Rattle motion picture under production. Pro-abortion organizations decry Death Rattle's actions as part of some sort of right-wing, anti-woman conspiracy. More than a handful of fiery religionists expound on the theme of God's judgment being manifest in Death Rattle's murderous activities.

One noteworthy facet of Death Rattle's activities is that it sometimes does not visit its horrible vengeance upon women who have harmed or killed their children. This seems especially true of young, unwed mothers who terminated their pregnacies. It is not the case that such women have not be visited by Death Rattle, but few who have will speak of their experiences.

Still, it does seem as there is an element of compassion within Death Rattle's psyche. One young, unwed mother who procured an abortion did grant an off-camera interview in which she tearfully claimed that Death Rattle appeared to her as her dead child, seeking love and offering forgiveness. In the media firestorm that followed the interview, the young woman went underground, changing her name in order to escape the public eye.

Appearance: Death Rattle appears as a toddler carrying a tattered teddy bear (dubbed its "deady bear" by media wags) and a toy rattle, but its head is a fleshless skull the empty sockets in which burn a baleful fire.

Powers: A word of advice for heroes: Don't let Death Rattle's size fool you. This monster is a formidable opponent. Being undead, Death Rattle is virtually immune to harm. Even if destroyed, it simply rises again to once more terrorize and punish. Its toy rattle is actually a weapon of dread mystic power. With its rattle, the monster can animate toys (turning them into deadly automatons), create illusions so realistic that they can kill, and teleport itself instantaneously between locations.
