Mutants and Masterminds Sources

Macbeth

What comics/graphic novels do you use to inspire your M&M game. Please try to be specicifc (no saying just "JLA," give a storyline if its a long running comic) and orginal (the more unique it is, the better).

The sources i use include:

League of Extraordinary Gentelmen
Stormwatch
The Authority
JLA- World War III/ Maggedon Story
Watchmen
Powers
Top Ten

Those are some good choices. My questions is which Stormwatch Arcs are yoiu using? Change or Die? or the new version?

How are you combing these diverse takes to create a campaign? I'm curious as we are just starting a Freedom City based campaign.

I use quite a few of the same sources as Macbeth, plus:

The Ultimates
Ultimate X-Men
Earth X
Marvels
Kingdom Come

And pretty much any Silver Age stuff I can get my hands on.

Wild Cards. specifically the first eight or nine books or so. (up to the point of where Hartmann was running for president.)

superhero movies. i really enjoyed both X-Men movies and Spider-Man.

i love supers role-playing, but i don't read comic books.

I'm starting a game based around city based vigilantes, but my players are already surprising me with their fantastic ideas. So far I have a judo instructor with a Cyclops style Visor (she's not a mutant, the visor does the blast by itself) and a Jamaican that got exposed to an illegal drug and powered up!

It's kind of Batman-esque at the moment. I'm waiting to see wha the other four players come up with.

Let me clarify my list from before: not all of those directly impact the game, but elements of the style of each affect my game. For example, in my main campaign, Watchmen has been used mostly for character concepts, League of Extraordinary Gentelmen for setting, The Authority for some general plot ideas, etc. I've also run some one shots that took stories almost directly from Stormwatch (Change or Die mostly, but the rest of the series is good) and The Authority (Gammora Island). I'm also trying to get some players together for a campaign based on a source I had forgot from my original list: Planetary. The players are going to be the Planetary team, and I'm even considering giving one of them a missing memory, like Elijah Snow. Let me add a few things to my original list:

Planetary (All Over the World TPB, The Fourth Man TPB)
The Ultimates (the story arcs that brought the team together, aprox. issues 1-5)
Ultimate Spiderman (its hard to narrow it down to just one story arc, their all good, but I'd have to say the first few issues: the "with great power comes great responsibility" stuff and the green goblin.)
Plasticman(Four issue miniseries with the Ooz Brothers, Rama Lama *ding dong*, Alien Wellfare worker, etc, which I believe was written by Phil Foglio)

So far the new Authority has failed to impress me, but I'm hoping it'll get better.
I also have to mention Automatic Kafka. This is one of the strangest series I have ever seen. I really don't know what to make of it, but I'm sure it affected me somehow, just maybe not for the better. I can't really recommend it, just because its hard to make sense of it, but if my opinion has piqued your interest you might just like it.

(Edit: Forgot to "me too" the suggestion for Kingdom Come, and pretty much anything else by Mark Waid)

Hey Mac,

Bless you, son! I'm glad you remembered that! I LOVED it!

Yes, Foglio was one of the writers on that mini-series (he also drew a bit of it-I saw at least one Foglio-type character in it). It was a perfect re-creation of Jack Cole's original. This is the Plas JLA needs!

And, DC, one more thing, if you're (HA!) listening: BRING BACK WOOZY!
