My 3,000th Post -- Some Thoughts on EN World

... could this thread have gotten more off track?
Yes, it could have. And you just have to peruse some other threads in this forum to see exactly how far it could have wandered...

Congratulations on 3,000 posts, William Ronald. There have been many times when this community has rekindled my love of the game, and when community members have made me consider things I normally wouldn't have. This community has probably had as much of a positive effect on my life as many of my friends have which, when you think about it, makes sense.

Hmm...sounds like a neat idea, but I may be the poster with the highest post count that nobody remembers.
I remember you, but you've already passed 3k, so.

3000 and going.

Thinking about what has happened in my time with 3e and since coming to EN World makes me want to thank everyone also.

My DM discovered this site when it was first created and had us check it out. I didn't look until the new Psionics book was previewed which with my love for Darksun was a fun and great read.

I became a member when the Dr. Sueuss contest was started.

In that time, I went from 1st edition to 3 to 3.5. I went from a gaming group of 18 to a group split in two for make it more playable. Due to work, I had to bow out of that group. I ran Forgotten Realms for a year then left it due to the work scheldule of the others. Now with Eberron I DM a new group which we are coming onto our first year anniversary.

I come to this site several times a week to talk with the new friends that live from every corner of the globe. We talk about gaming, life and the joys and fears involved in each.

So yeah- lets all say a thankyou to the ones that make this possible and to other members whom support it.

Unto the next 2 1/2 years and 3000+ posts....

No, I remember you just fine. I think of you as the poster who unfathomably lives in San Diego and MISSES CLEVELAND. ;)

If ENworld has taught me anything, it's that some people have very strong opinions regarding:

Playing paladins
Playing cross-gender PCs
Which edition of D&D is the best
Whether or not to support their local game store
Whether high magic or low magic is the best type of game
and whether the OGL helped or hurt D&D.

:)

What about cross-gender paladins?

William Ronald congratulations on third level/3000 posts and an interesting post.

Let's not forget the "rules-lite versus rules-heavy" threads. ;)

Or the alignment threads. I think it is one thing to argue passionately on a position, but another to view the person you disagree with as an enemy.

I can only agree with you, William. From a gaming perspective, this site has proven to be a godsend to me. It may sound silly, but I enjoy D&D more now than I ever used to, and I think that's largely because of this community - the ideas, the advice, the help; knowing about products, reading reviews. Meeting other gamers, participating in their games, talking about gaming stuff. There's just so much I've gotten from everyone here.

And - and this may be the most important thing of all - I'm made some wonderful friends. It's just a shame I don't get to see them as much as I'd like (one of the disadvantages of this being a world-wide community).

I think that the game means more to me in that I have learned so much more about what is out there beyond the group that I was in. I have gained a lot of good ideas, had great discussions, as well as hours of fun here. This site and the people I have meet here have opened up new horizons for me in gaming. As playing RPGs tends to be done in relatively small groups, I think that EN World has helped foster communication and understanding among gamers. So, thanks again for the efforts.

Like you, I have made great friends here. It is a pain not to be able to meet them all in person, but I hope to get round to it sooner or later.

You could always go to GenCon. It's only 180 miles from your listed location. :D

I'm scheming on a way for my wife and I to go next year.
