My favorite character yet.

So I am starting another game and I finally decided not to use a magic user. Im now playing a “paladin”. But he isnt an actual paladin. His backstory is pretty tame, family is all intact. He has a kid, and soon he will have a grandson. But in the noble bloodline he comes from, every man has been a paladin. Including his son. But for some strange reason he cant understand, he was never looked upon by his god. He prays and does everything he needs to do religiously on a daily basis. he shows devotion. But he never can find out why he doesnt get the powers.
This character is a fighter who acts exactly like a paladin. His drive is to serve the god in battle and do justice, so they will favorably look upon him and grant him the powers he wants so badly. (Spoiler alert. He doesnt get them ever.)
This is my seventh character, and I wanted to share him because he is gonna be so damn fun to play. Also, what do you guys think? I find characters who want to be another class interesting and their backstories can be very complex/sad.Akinatorhttps://xender.vip/ https://testmyspeed.onl/

Cool idea. I really like the concept.

The thing I like about 5E is even if you later in game you did impress your God or in some way gain their favour there's multi classing cleric or paladin as options.

Just out of interest, I was wondering what background you took?

Sounds like a lot of fun. Back in AD&D 2ed I played a similar character - a worshiper of the god of magic who tried so hard to be a paladin but was never accepted. He was a fighter until about 7th level (where the equivalent of Extra Attack) kicked in, and then Dual Classed (a AD&D 2ed type of multiclassing but you can never go back) to Wizard (or was it Magic-User? It's been a while) since he worshiped the god of magic.

That's a fun concept, I'd be pleasantly surprised if I was the DM. Maybe even reward him at the end of his journey :p

Out of curiosity, is there an actual reason for him not to be able to be a paladin? Or is it just rotten luck?
