D&D 4E My First 4e Character

Quickleaf

Legend
I have DMed 4e and played pregens, but I have never made my own character. Now we're starting a new campaign and I get that opportunity. I need help from you 4e pros, as I'm overwhelmed at my options...

Basically, the character is a reboot of my handle's namesake "Quickleaf", my first D&D character. He was an wild elf ranger. I'd like to bring the character back but breathe some new life into him: He's basically a smarmy good-hearted scoundrel with a tendency toward bigotry, superstition, larceny, and a propensity to lie through his teeth. :) He's a crack shot with a bow and can invoke magical effects with his arrows. He prefers to remain hidden, acting as the party's sniper.

Our DM is starting us at 8th level and the campaign will probably run till 16th level or so.

So far I'm thinking Seeker (bloodbond), but I really like the Ranger daily powers which grant you extra RBAs (ranged basic attacks), and I'm leaning toward the Sharpshooter paragon path. So maybe a hybrid Seeker/Ranger?

For feats I'm thinking Twilight Adept (MC rogue w/ cunning sneak 1/encounter), Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus (Bow), Sneak of Shadows (to pick up thievery which our party lacks), and Hybrid Talent (to pick up the bloodbond seeker's minor action shift). I'm looking at picking up Shadow of the Wild at 10th, Inevitable Volley at 11th, and Primal Eye at 12th.

Are there other paragon paths that I should consider? Do you have experience with seekers in your game? Suggestions about builds I should consider? Am I missing any obvious feats? Opinions on hybrids?

.....
Fyi, we have a party of 7, and we're trying to go for maximum control:
Druid (predatory), Wizard (control), Avenger (isolating), Sorcerer (chaos), Warden (?), Runepriest (wrathful)

Would personally make a Cunning Sneak crossbow Rogue, possibly hybrid with Ranger if it is that important to you. Magical type effects from shooting: check. Stealth: check. Sniping: check. Solid Elf synergy: check.

I think there was also a DnDI article on making 'wild elves' too. Entry is a feat. If the racial part of your PC is important. C

It sounds like you want an Elf Rogue with the Cunning Sneak build from Martial Power 2. Take the Treetop Sniper feat (Lets you Sneak Attack with a bow).

If you want to add a bit of magic to your arrows, check out the idea of Alchemical Ammunition from Adventurer's Vault. One feat, and your arrows can be magic-like.

Personally, I'd skip the hybrid and go with either straight elf ranger or seeker. You can pick up the 'wild elf' feat for that flavor (assuning you have DDI or the FRCS), and if magic was important you could always take the Rituals feat. For the thievery skill, you can either multi as rogue or if it was me, take a Background that gives you thievery. There are plenty of scoundrel type backgrounds that will give the skill to you, plus then emphasize your jerky side.

Dude, you're describing a prescient Bard. Which is fortuitous since having a Runepriest as your primary healer is "A Bad Thing".
