D&D 4E My first 4e experience: Escape from Sembia demo in Austin, TX

I'm not entirely sure how you equate that to easy.

Its a whole 33% harder than what they would expect to be encountering.

I would anticipate that played correctly, they would probably lose their cleric, to a creature of that power.

It did go well but that is a bummer. I would've given you the rockstar treatment if you were there.

With groupies? I'd hate to think I missed groupies.

;)

Seriously, I do wish I could've made it. I actually met the guy who introduced me to most of the members of my current gaming group at a Dragon's Lair ENWorld game day, some years ago. And I don't even get to go to DL that often anymore, since I live way northwest, and what with 4E upcoming, there hasn't been a lot to go there to buy, ya know?

Thinking about it, NPCs classes not existing would be fine. Stats for "random villager", "random smith", "random tribal caster" and "random noble" is what we need.

6 1st level PCs have a budget of 600xp. The succubus clearly falls under that at 400xp so technically, it should be beatable by the PCs.

That said, from looking at the defenses and attack values of the pre-gen and succubus, the 8 level difference might simply be too much for a 1st level party to handle. The 1st level party is only going to hit her probably only on a 18 or above (barring the use of flanking etc.) while the succubus can pretty much auto-hit.

Hmm...then again, it only has 90 hp and the damage it does isn't out there either.....so ignore whatever I say, only way to see is to actually run a battle against 6 1st level PCs

Unfortunately, I'm no longer cool enough to provide groupies. And when I was, I was way too clueless, naive and/or self-involved to understand that we had groupies around. Although I did sit a few girls down once for a game of Call of Cthulhu back in my band days. Two words: Train. Wreck. Probably the only game where the Keeper had to roll Sanity checks instead of the players.

Ah, youth is wasted on the young...

But with teeny little sandwiches, bowls of only green M&Ms and amps that go to eleven, I've got ya covered. I might even be cool with you throwing a television out of the window.

RAWK!

That said, I'm hunting around for a 4e group myself. My current group focuses solely on indie rpgs and playtesting. Not much opportunity for 4e.

If you know of any openings for a player, I'd be interested.

Well, my current group already has something of a waiting list, so I'm not much help there. But, if you find yourself able to put together part of a 4E group, I might--depending on work schedule--be interested in joining a second game. So I can't offer you a group, but I might at least be able to offer you another player if you find yourself with some people, but not enough.

Yeah, I know, not much of an offer. :heh:

Sounds good. I may be able to get a group together in the not-so-distant future. Given my current rpg pals in the area, it might be a bit unorthodox though. Currently, most people I know are pretty big into the indie-rpg thing. A good group of guys. But typically reluctant to do any sort of campaign or D&D type of game.

I could do an open post at DL. But previous experience with such things makes me shudder a little. I have no problem running a game if the Big Chair comes to me. But open calls can be very... um... interesting. I'll leave it at that. ;)

If your group has a waiting list, why not have the waiting list people spin off a second group? Assuming that most of the people on the waiting list are pretty decent (being people your regular group might want to game with in the future) and have maybe 2-3 degrees of separation between them it might be as simple as a quick email to the interested parties.

No reason the waiting list crowd can't have a little fun while they're, you know, waiting. :)

And it gives the guys/gals in your current group a backup or additional group to pop into every now and then. Soon enough, it becomes 1 or 2 extra groups all intermingled with members moving back and forth based on who's running, what's being run and their individual schedules.

Next thing you know we're having movie nights, potluck dinners and setting up Mouse-Con in NW Austin! :D
