My First Review!

AnthonyRoberson

First Post
Ok, I just posted my first review in the database. I picked Geanavue: The Stones of Peace because it is new and I really enjoyed reading it.

I plan to post more reviews and so I wanted some feedback from you about this first one. Was the review useful to you? Did it provide you with enough information to make an informed decision about whether or not to buy the book? Did you like the style of the review. Would you have rather seen a chapter by chapter outline (which I admit to finding awfully dull and boring to read) or something else entirely?. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Oh, and one more question. What D20 products, old or new, would you really like to see reviews of that seem to have been overlooked?

Cheers,

Anthony R.

I haven't read the review as yet - the reviews page fails to open up about this time of the day because of congestion or somesuch? :(

But I'll be sure to check it out and give you my comments later! :)

I'll get to that a little later! ;)

Well I would like to see a review of Call of Cthulhu (but don't go running out to the shops just for me! ;) )

I would suggest that you simply review the products you buy mate, don't pandour to what others want*.

*except me of course! :D

I just read the review. Good job. You definately do not have to do a chapter by chapter outline, those can be rather tedious. More reviews would be excellent. I really like to see 5 or more reviews for each product, so that I can draw a conclusion from a diverse group of reviewers. I'm looking for more reviews of 3rd party d20 modules, many of these have 1 or 0 reviews. Keep contributing, sooner or later I'll get around to kicking out some reviews, too.

Hi Anthony! :)

Okay I have read the review - certainly among the better reviews I have read.

Perhaps Psion will see this and proffer some advice on the matter - but your off to a good start.

I would certainly be interested in seeing the product, but as more of a player than a DM I probably wouldn't buy such a product.

As for a chapter by chapter style I don't mind coverage in a chronological fashion; but a review can be easier to swallow in bitesize chunks (as with any information). However if you have clearly defined paragraphs you could circumnavigate such an obvious methodology.

I also thought it was a nice touch with the links at the end.

Overall I give the review 4/5* ;)

*Reduced by one because of product content didn't particularly interest me overtly.

Keep up the good work! :)

Cocktail party effect!

Huh! Someone say my name!?

:)

Well, not that much I can really add. I can only tell you what I would do. I don't have this product, but it does sound interesting. (However, I probably won't be getting it as I will be receiving two competing city sourcebooks from their publishers.)

At any rate, I would have done / would have liked to see more critical analysis of the key points of the product. Not that you have to follow my formula, but I try to evaluate 5 key areas:

Value for money (pages, content density)
Presentation (art, layout)
Ideas (well, ideas for your game)
Utility (useful resources for your game)
System Fidelity (how well it uses the system)

Also, I am leery on first reviews with 5's or 1's, as they tend to be rants or raves. But then, my first review (Relics & Rituals) was a 5, so you nver know.

Thanks for the quality feedback Psion! I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind for future reviews. I actually thought about giving Geanavue a rating of 4, but I really thought it was better than that and the current system doesn't allow for ratings of say 4.25.

Cheers,
