I run a Goblins in Eberron game.

At one point I mentioned "The Forgotten One", a lost god that might have been a hobgoblin. One PC chose to be a follower. His character plan was to die and come back as a revenant. So instead of having him come back at the end of a short story arc, I did a 2 episode arc of rescuing the dead goblin.

I told the players their new PCs had some connection to the Forgotten One, and any background they came up with would be true - no matter what.

So now, I have a conspiracy of the gods! The Forgotten One was displaced by the gods, and his ally the Raven Queen. The RQ is only remembered by a clan of drow in Xendrik. The Keeper, replacing the RQ, is collecting the souls of the dead and preventing them from returning to FO, which they would naturally do. While the power of the FO is blocked by the Keeper, the consciousness of the FO is trapped in Dal Quor, held down by the Dreaming Dark. The souls used to animate warforged are torn from the remnants of the FO.

So now I've got Dreaming Dark, Sovereign Host, the Keeper, House Cannith and Lord of Blades as additional possible adversaries! Sweet!
