Randomness is sometimes more fun than the static "Take 10".

Not when each search check covers a 5' square and your in a 50' long, 20' wide, 10' high corridor.

Thats 120 seperate search checks.

Heck, even the much lambasted 10' by 10' room with a chest guarded by a Kobold with a pointy stick takes 26 of them to search fully (including the chest and kobold).

They never rolled the checks when walking down corridors. Only with doors, chests, and other obvious trap zones.

You can also take 20 on search checks.


....20 times as long, of course.

You can also (probably) aid another on search checks. So there's another +2 x # of party members to add to that.
