I'm not sure I get what you're saying. Are you just saying that your group is buying the books, or am I missing something?

I'm buying all my Players their copies based on a bet I made in 2006.

"If 4th Edition releases before GenCon 08, I'll buy everyone PHBs."

So, 7 PHBs and a Core Rules Set later, my group will have their books.

Ooh. Bad luck there.

That's why I recommend being generic when it comes to bets. If you had said "summer of 08" instead, perhaps your group would be buying your books rather than vice versa.

Ouch. I hope they buy you dinner or something in return! :) Kudos for keeping your word, though!

Just out of morbid curiosity, what would you have gotten had you won the bet?

Nothing. I was that (foolishly) confident in my prognostication abilities. Oh well. Two of them already said that I don't have to go through with it, but I'm a man of my word; often to a fault.

He would still be buying, the books are being released in spring.

Oops. Without stakes on both sides, not strictly a bet. I believe the design team might call this an exception-based shooting off of the mouth. ;)
