My mini fetish, or When is enough, enough?

I, too, am addicted. I bought 15 boxes of GoL last month and purchased singles online and at a local game store. I spend far too much time as maxminis and my wife knows that I am addicted.

I feel your pain, brother. Doomed we are.

We've got in the hundreds, but I'm not sure how many. We got two cases of GoL, a case of Archfiends, and lots of single packs for the previous releases. They see active use in the game, so it's a worthy investment (and we've played a few Skirmish games, too).

My wife, who is more rabid about collecting them than I am, discovered an excellent way to store them. Originally, we were keeping them in clear plastic bins...but they would get a little bent, and it was hard to find inndividual minis. Then she went to Lowes and bought some of the hardare organizer containers, somewhat similar to this, but a better model. Maybe I can get her to post some pics of what the real ones look like. We have two models: one for medium sized minis, and a larger one for the large and huge sized minis. She then sorted by type, so all the humans are in one place, all the elves in another, undead over here and so forth. So now they're both portable AND easy to access during a game.

Had I mentioned my wife is AWESOME? 'Cuz she IS. :D

Buying 8 hill giants? That seems like a rediculous waste of 'teh $$$.' I've bought a case of Archfiends and Giants of Legend, and a half case of Dragonseye and Harbinger. I'll likely buy half-cases of all the following sets. But I wouldn't be buying these if I was actually worried about getting some number of a certain mini. It's all about bulk content to me.
Actually, we've used all eight at once on no less than four occasions (once for a battle verses a hill giant tribe, once for a battle vs. a frost giant clan, and twice for battles vs. groups of cyclopskin!) I've definitely gotten my money's worth with the hill giants because they are a great substitute for any fight with large humanoids. :)

heck so are the oversized ogres for that matter

I'm addicted. I always wanted these things when I was a kid but I couldn't paint to save my life, nor did I have the cash to buy such things; the core books were bad enough for an eleven year-old without a paper route. Now here they are, in all their glory, and I've actually got the money to buy them, so yeah, I don't stand a chance.

*sigh*

OK, what are GoL? Giants of Lore? Goblins of Lancanster? As you can plainly see, I'm mini-ignorant! So, they're just like the old lead figures only plastic instead?

Giants of Legend.

no they ain't like the tried and true lead ones.

lead is better. much, much better.

I bought a couple of boxes when the initial line came out, just for the hell of it (I didn't think much of what I saw in the previews) and found that they were as bad as I thought - I'd have rather used dice.

However, lately, after getting a look at some of the "Giants of Legend" minis, I ended up picking up a few boxes, because I think the mini designs and quality have improved quite a bit, and the amount of useful monster minis (as opposed to crested felldrakes and commoners with scythes) has definitely gone up.

I sitll like my Reapers a hell of a lot more (even unpainted), but the WotC ones will let me make up a decent set that's actually convenient to carry places because it doesn't weigh 40lbs and isn't at risk for getting banged up.

I've got a few hundred minis myself. Then I got others started buying them. One of my DMs had started buying them after I did and moreso now that his gf works for a local hobby shop that started selling them (wonder if she persuaded them to sell them after they'd said, to another customer, that they weren't going to bother with them). Now he's got more than I have. And they're great for a "toss it over here so I can see it!" and then lobbing it across the living room.
