My Neverwinter Nights 2 Project: The Whispers of War

Ok, maybe it was drifting somewhere in the nooks and crannies of my subconsciousness then ;) I didn't consciously do that I swear.

There is an inn named the 7 Gables in Somerset KY - when I first saw it I thought that makes an interesting name - It's roof was painted green so I thought Green Gables... And stuck it in.

I see you have a Gnometown!

I like the premise, and I always wanted to get into module creation back in NWN1, but it never happened. I'd still like to do that, and the best way is, I think, to work on it as a project with others.

So, count me in as interested.

The best way to deal with a major project is to break it down.

So let's break it down a step. The seven mentors. I have Teresa pretty well thought out since she's essentially a former PC, but the others are blank slates. Indeed, if you can come up with a better name by all means do...

Wizard (Any) -- Devon the Wanderer
Sorcerer (Any) -- Sansha of House Yoral.
Paladin or Cleric (LG) - Priest Dorleon of Tean
Bard or Cleric (CG) - Priest Rowain of Poen and Priestess Alisa of Cuane
Barbarian, Ranger or Druid - Harold Reeve, Warden to Lord Montgomery
Fighter - Captain Jasper Ward of the Guard

A more interesting comment overall would be commenting on the coolness of your map not as an NWN2 map - but as a map for general RPG use :)

After you play with the lighting and tint a bit more (put the blue back in the water, say) - (and scale the picture less) it will look even better. Drop the camera from directly overhead to between 70 and 80 degrees to add perspective to the map.

Try to get that shading and effect in Dundjinni or CC pro3. You'll be trying a good long while. You just can't do it.

I always thought something really powerful and easy to use using a modern 3d game engine would leave Dundjinni and CC pro3/ DD pro3 to eat dust. A non artist can't get the shading and shadow effects in those programs that a modern lighting engine makes possible.

Make it easy to use - there's just no competing with something like that using a 2d based program.

Seriously - are there any ENworlders who would have interest in a mapping software product like that? Built specifically for that purpose?

Now, that sounds like a pretty cool tool. Especially, if it were easier to use than CC and Dundjinni. I'd use it.

What would would you want to see in something like that? What's important to you?

Not as steep a learning curve as CC. However, to be able to quickly create game play maps for my miniatures would be awesome. Especially, if they look nice even though I am no artist. It'd also be nice to be able to quickly generate more maps on the fly as I am GMing a game.

Printing them out would be very cool. It'd save me money on things like tilesets and such that I currently buy. It'd also give me more variety on what "tiles" I wanted.... I could make my own as needed.

If you aren't going to build a game there are a lot of tools in the NWN2 toolset that could be removed to make the interface easier to navigate, that's for sure.

The current NWN2 graphics engine (Electron) is very advanced and would be light years ahead of the competition, but using the toolset to just be able to make fantasy RPG maps is pretty much out. As you know, building a map fast and the NWN2 toolset are rather mutually exclusive options. It would have to be gutted.

70 degree or so perspective maps would be pretty cool though. That sort of detail to maps is something you rarely see from even WotC and Paizo products. They take too much time and are too expensive to draw by hand.
