Its the only OD&D that counts. The other is just a bunch of nigh-unplayable leaflets.
Indeed. For those who would like to see by themselves seek the bottom of this webpage ("Original DnD Game PDF.zip" link).

The rules cyclopedia version, which is basically identical to the redbox/bluebox/greenbox/blackbox series.
What is this "D&D Rules Cyclopedia"? A CD with all the boxed sets available as PDFs, or you bought all the antique D&D boxed sets?

The RC is a physical book. A hardback containing most of the contents of the Basic, Expert, Companion, and Master box sets. A link follows:

Rules Cyclopedia

Rules Cyclopedia is one hardcover book. It goes up to 36th level but does not cover Immortals rules, as far as I know.

I am amazed that the halfling continues to do so well (and has so many throwing axes!). I was worried that as the other characters keep gaining hp and he does not, that the character would fall...short. :)

Also note if you are going strictly by the book that, while the halfling language exists, halflings do not automatically start the game knowing how to speak it (unlike elfs that know elven, or dwarves that know dwarven). :)

GAZ8 explained that 'Hin' the halfling language was archaic and had fallen into disuse such that the vast majority of halflings spoke Thyatian (common). Hand waving? Yes. A clever way to cover a boner in the rules? Also yes.

Well, for the moment at least he continues being the party leader. The fighter has already gotten to the point where he's a heavier hitter than the halfling, but the halfling still has the best AC.

Keep in mind that right now the PCs are all hovering about level 7-9. So the Halfling being level 8 still isn't a problem. We'll see if the Halfling still measures up when the other PCs are level 22.

Since I'm using the Attack Ranks and the halfling keeps accumulating weapon mastery and skills, and will be gaining some advanced powers (such as the ability to take only half damage from spells or breath weapons, etc) he may not end up doing so bad. The biggest problem he'll probably have is less hit points.

But in any case, the guy who's playing the Halfling is determined that he will be a Halfling Immortal.

Unfortunately, the players who played the female cleric, and now the one who played the elf have both had to quit the campaign, and the group is down to 3 players at the moment. We'll probably have one or two new additions to the group shortly.. plus, at the start of the campaign there was another elf, who's player had to leave for a tour of duty (he's in the merchant marines), but he'll be back by may. So the campaign WILL go on.

So, we played yesterday again.. the Fighter wasn't able to make it, but we had the Halfling, the Cleric, and two new players.
New Player 1 rolled up a Mystic (lucky guy!). He decides to be from Ochealea, and to be a kind of "drunken master"... well, more a fat monk with a real taste for booze.

New Player 2 rolled a pretty mediocre thief.

Lacking the Fighter they decided not to try to go after the Red Dragon they'd seen a couple of adventures ago, and instead decided to go to the hills north of Sateeka (capital of Heartshire), looking to clear up some more space for a potential stronghold for the Halfling and his clan.

After failing to run into any encounters for a while, they decide to ask the metal-seeking sword where there might be metals, and it points them toward the hills in the east, nearing the Mountains.
They find a cave, and tell the 1st level thief to go in and investigate; in part because the thief was so annoying they just wanted to get rid of him. True enough, the thief runs into a dragon's lair. Its a white dragon, and its asleep, so the thief could easily have snuck back out and let the high-level cleric and Halfling take over.
But no... instead, he decides to try to pinch a single gold piece, to show off how great he is. Failing his pick pocket check, the dragon wakes up and promptly smashes him with a claw.

The other PCs, still outside, hear the roars. The Cleric casts bless, and the three quickly dive out of the way of the cave mouth (the Cleric to one side, the Halfling to the other, and the Mystic climbing above the cave mouth). A round later, the Dragon breathes Cold through the cave mouth.

The Halfling taunts him, and he breathes again, not hitting anyone.
Finally, after a second taunting, the dragon charges out. The halfling hits him head on, the Cleric throws a dagger, and the Mystic (1st level, mind you!) drops on top of the dragon's back and strikes him unarmed! The dragon breathes cold right on the Halfling, but in the next round they all hit him again. The dragon weakly bats at the Halfling (failing to get past his negative AC), and the next round the Halfling downs him.

The treasure is enormous; tens of thousands of coins, plus jewels, etc.. totalling about 120k in gp.

They head back to town, divide the loot, pay off the rest of their resurrection debt to the town Sheriff (the beautiful Delune, who has by now become the Halfling PC's girlfriend). The Halfling also gifts her a cape made out of the white dragon's scales.

Once in town, they meet up with the replacement to the Thief, this time a Wizard, with only a 3 in dex and a 5 in con. He's a miserable bastard, hopeless and pessimistic about his chances as an adventurer.

Even so, they head out to a the nearby town of Shadowgates, stopping by Fishtickle Bridge along the way. When they arrive there, it is the eve of the Fast, a six-day halfling ritual of fasting (duh), and some of the gate guards are refusing a Dwarf entry to the town. They are racists who still hold a grudge over the time, two thousand years ago, when the Dwarves had invaded the Five Shires. The Halfling PC, who is a sherriff, orders them to let him through, over their complaints that the Dwarf might be a spy, or part of and advance force, or other such nonsense.

Resting in the town for a night, they move on, and when they get to the outskirts of Shadowgates they run into a Dwarven Warband!! The city guards were right.. these bandit dwarves have come to the Five Shires thinking the halflings to be easy pickings, and are heading to raid the town!! Their leader, a powerful dwarf in plate mail with a long sword and an exaggerated mustache (as all the "bosses" in my campaign have) is boastful about being here "for the gold", like his ancestors were.

The pcs challenge the dwarves, the Halfling unslinging his trusty "Razor", a hand axe +2, +3 vs. mustaches. The Wizard wisely stays out of it, making himself invisible, as he has only 7hp (he's level 5). But the Halfling, Cleric and monk go at the boss. He's tough, and the other dwarves end up swamping the Mystic, dropping him to unconsciousness. The wizard quickly grabs the Mystic and rides off with him on horseback, while the Cleric and Halfling kill off the Dwarven leader. The remaining dwarves fail their morale, and flee. The PCs end up with a ring of fire resistance, a potion of waterbreathing, and +5 longsword! The Monk takes the ring, the cleric keeps the potion, and they all agree they'll sell the longsword to the absent Fighter next week.

The PCs get to Shadowgates, still during the Fast, and try to find the wizard a tutor to teach him a couple of higher-level spells (the five shires has only a handful of native magic-users, and Shadowgates happens to have two of those). Unfortunately, since he isn't member of any Magical guild or college, the teachers refuse, though one of the two sells him a Haste scroll for a whopping 18 000gp, and an Analyze scroll for an also-overpriced 6000gp.

They head back to Sateeka, and by the time they get there the Fast is over, and the Feast has begun! Six days of constant drinking and eating, all you can take, all free; with storytelling and pipe-smoking galore. The Monk goes on an absolute bender, the cleric eats his heart out, and the Halfling hangs out with his girlfriend Delune. The Wizard, however, realizes that his invisibility spell mixed with the distractions of the Feast give him an excellent chance to be chaotic, and he spends the days robbing the halfling households.
Unfortunately, he overextends himself, and robs from Delune herself, including a very rare sling and dagger made from the Blackflame, the holy Halfling artifact. She tells the Halfling that these items are missing, the halfling has the cleric do a locate object, they find it and with some tracking find clear evidence it was the magic-user who did it. He's arrested with an Arrow of Justice, and sentenced to four years of prison to be served in service of the town.

With the Wizard out of the picture, the party picks up yet another new adventurer, this time a Lawful thief from Darokin (he claims he's really more of a "security expert" and hates real thieves). With the new addition, the players now decide to wait till next week for the Fighter to come back, and then go after the red dragon.

Oh yea, a summary of the current party:

Fighter (Avenger of Vanya) lv. 9
Halfling Sheriff lv 8 (attack class B, I believe)
Cleric of Asterius lv 8
