My Opinions on d20

I like d20, tight rule system (though Hero will always be the best), but...
D&D I find is limiting in one's imagination, all those stats that everyone counts as canon. Ick.
I like FUGDE and love the Hero system, though Wizard's System Reference Document makes it hard to ignore d20.
Maybe I'll make up my own game someday...

Hero system, where the average attack takes 5 minutes.

"Ok I roll 10 dice to attack and I hit. Ok now I roll 15d6 and count them all up, then I count the 6's and the non-1s. Now I get my calculator out and save the numbers, subtract from the guys defenses, and his current stun... ok. Your turn. (repeat)"

I'll give you that the game let you do anything you wanted, but that was about its only saving grace.

d20 is fast and efficient and its very open ended in most respects. And personally, my imagination hasn't been limited in any way by it.

Again, sorry about misplacing the thread (I've already dope-slapped myself three times).
I'm sticking to d20 mainly because EVERYONE else does at least this system. I hope the imagination limitation is only from my own players (I have new ones in the making). They've all played 1st edition AD&D real powergamed, so storyline and role playing mean little to them. It's an old, old complaint of mine.

Although I love 3e and the D20 system, I have to admit it's a powergamer's paradise. I have guys who never thought of powergaming in previous editions, and now all they talk about is how one level of this class combined with two of this one will bring them x amount of power.

I'm guilty of this myself. I was really into role-play and character development when I played OD&D. When I started with 3e, I've caught myself doing the munchie-crunchie mambo several times.
can't help it....
