My players are not working as a team

You might have too many players with divergant attitudes there. I like to keep my groups down to me (usually the DM) and no greater than 5 players. This tends to keep the group from forming subgroups that disrupt the game with their antics. Of course, most of my players are hardcore RPers and so PC attitude comes into play a bit more than the "average" gaming group.

Just my .02 :)

i usually throw out a "Are you sure you do that?" or "Are what is your marching order/" or any of a hundred different DM asking-why-in-the-hell-you-want-to-do-that questions.

This gives them pause for thought and rethinks their actions.

Another thing you can do that has worked out beautifully with my players (and I am damn proud of my players :) ) is when in combat ONLY the person going on that initative can talk and plan out their action and speak. In this way you don't have people talking out of turn and saying "You need to go here or here and do this" out of context and only speak enough for 6 seconds (1 round) worth of words.

It's worked out really really well in my group and made them coordinate their efforts in and around combat to be effective.

You should see them pulling out their hair when the rogue doesn't flank the enemy when he needs to! Oh it's a hoot, but it mimics real combat and makes them earn every drop of XP.

I actually like a bit of intra-party intrigue, as long as it's not open warfare. Having players from different religions, or different sects within the same religion, or just teasing each other a bit. And it's not really about role-playing. Some players just show up, make smart-ass comments, and don't really add much to the whole show. As long as someone is trying, they'll usually be alright. Those are the people who pick up on your clues, especially the less-than-subtle ones.

It's the ones who don't really care that drag things down. They may think they care, but all of their actions speak otherwise. I had a few players like this. They were good friends, and they even tried DMing at times (that was fun), but as players they just weren't having as much fun as the others.

This is a great plan! I friggin hate it when 6 other players have planned out the entire life of my character! What the heck...don't they have their own characters to run! I can understand if you occassionally think something strategically will work so well for the entire party, but if you want to play all the characters, I'd rather just take my ball and go home...Paladinwife
