My simple prediction about Gleemax

those creepy pedophiles who play in MtG tournaments. You know who I mean: the 45 year old guys who don't bathe regularly and sit there for hours playing with the 12 year olds at their local FLGS . . .
Yeah, what's with those guys? :uhoh:
Glad I'm not the only one creeped out by them...

Probably the same one the liked "Wii."
I'd heard the name 'Revolution" came from the American part of the company and was changed because it had bad cultural overtones in Japanese perception. So it had to be something more palatable to the Japanese market and their language is heavy on onomontopeua(sp?) words.

But back to the primary point I think basically most of WoTC that isn't directly part of the D&D section were heavily influenced by MtG and its most vocal proponents without realizing that the name could be a turn-off with other parts of the gaming market.

Well... now that they've migrated all of the WotC forums over to Gleemax, dragging over all of those existing users whether they like it or not, they can now say that its an instant huge success. Never mind that you have to keep on logging in to stay in, unlike the old boards. What a pain in the ....

I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm not sure exactly what to say that I am, but cautiously optimistic is close. I'm not interested in it at all, but I'm pretty sure it's going to at least do well enough to justify its own existence, and to be completely honest I don't think it would be a bad thing for it to be a complete success.

That said, I haven't used it at all. AFAIK, it doesn't offer me anything that I can't get from plenty of other communities (and my community of choice, of course, is EN World. There are many like it, this one's mine. ;)), and ever since MySpace I'm extremely wary of any social networking site (I'm a LiveJournal junkie, but that's mostly because I've been on it since before MySpace/Facebook/et. al. came out).

If you hadn't said it was Gleemax, I'd never have noticed. The boards look exactly the same.

I hope it is an instant huge success, even though I hate the name.

You know, I'm not a magic player by any stretch, but it seems sort of silly for us to make fun of someone else's hobby. I mean, we sit around pretending we're elves slaying dragons - we should not try to put ourselves above any other hobby group, y'know? :)

As for Gleemax - it'll always be the site that killed the Dragon to me. And I'm too attached to EN World, thanks.

For what it's worth, I like the name Gleemax. It's kinda fun, and it sounds like something the developers came up with, rather than some words thrown together by marketing. Just my two cents, though.

I think I am just going to do my best to forget WOTC even exists. The only things they even do anymore that I am even kind of interested in is those Tiles and adventures.

Won't be hard for me to completely focus on PAizo, TLG, AEG, Goodman, GR, and the other third party publishers.

They are where my primary interests are being met/fed/fulfilled.

Thinking about WOTC just elevates my BP. I'm old enough now that having that happen is too risky.

So I will move on to safer, and greener, pastures that are more to my liking. The gaming I have done this summer has been the funnest I have had in years. None of it involved ".5E". "3E" was involved, but that is for "Legend of the 5 Rings 3e".

Yep, WOTC and I will be much happier going our separate ways.

Yeah, I've been heading that way lately, myself. Most of my recent purchases have been from Paizo (DRAGON, DUNGEON, PATHFINDER, those Item Cards, and I'm gonna buy a critical hit deck), adventures from Goodman Games (Dungeon Crawl Classics!), and reaper minis. About the only wotc products I'm currently interested in are Eberron books - and the group I play with already has 'em all, so I might only pick up the campaign setting when I get some spare cash.

I'm really interested to see where Gleemax goes and give Wizards a lot of credit for trying something new in this industry. Not only that but they seem prepared to spend a bucket of cash on it to make sure it works.

Is it wrong for me to keep giving the Trekkie at work wedgies in the lunchroom?
