My Son's First Game (Orc and Pie!)

Dragonhelm

Knight of Solamnia
After reading a recent "Wil Save" article by Wil Wheaton, I was inspired. He said that he had played Orc & Pie with his step-son and how they had a blast.

So I decided to play Orc & Pie with my own son, age 8. I decided to make it ridiculously simple, so we used the Castles and Crusades rules (with a liberal dose of creativity thrown in). He rolled up a human wizard, and his ability scores were better than what I usually roll (Str 16, Dex 16, Con 15, Int 17, Wis 12, Cha 11).

His character's name was TJ-A. That's his first and middle initials and his brother's first initial.

We played for a few minutes, and my son had a blast. Seems the orc had eaten all the pies save for the one, and he slid on a pie crust and fell down. My son zapped him with a magic missile, and that was that.

But wait, it doesn't end there!

My son is what is called a strong-willed child, so it's no surprise to me that he sort of took the game over. The game soon led to a secret passage that led to our house where my wife and I became characters who traveled to the pie factory. Apparantly some invisible orcs had come in in the meantime, but he had killed them.

Don't ask me how, but the adventure eventually led to outer space (specifically the sun and Pluto). My son has quite the imagination!

So that's my son's first role-playing game. He had a lot of fun.

Sounds like a great time! I am looking forward to the day that IronPup is older and possibly shows interest in the game and running him through his first adventure.
