My tiny wish for 3.5

I'll add my wish. I hope they put in a way that allows a low strenth fighter a chance to compete with the large two handed guys. As it is now, the only way to really be a good fighter is with lots of strength. You BAB goes up, damage goes up. etc. You defense is good, cause you wear big heavy armor. What about the fighter who just wants to use that long sword. Or wear light armor so he can move around. The new damage reduction will add to this. Why looks for cool weapons made of silver, etc. just add more strength... That will solve all problems.

I'm with you Ulrick! I've only just become completely comfortable with 3.0!!!
So because you can't keep up, the majority of us have to suffer?

I don't see any problem with a lower strength fighter. You can still use the longsword, and you can take Weapon Finesse to take advantage of your high Dex (and, really, if you have neither a high Strength nor Dex, then you have no business being a fighter). You CAN move faster if you wear light armor, and you'll probably be able to make full use of your AC Dex bonus in the light armor as well. True, the high Strength fighter will probably do more damage when he lands a blow, but that really does make sense.

Low str can't finesse Longsword. Thats part of the problem, about the best weapon to finesse is Spiked Chain (which is a good, but often viewed as cheesy low-str build, very feat intensive also) or the Rapier. If you go Rapier, you need crits, and vs things that cant be critted you might as well be fighting damage reduction.

Exactly. And any type of damage reduction puts you almost out of the fight. You get the same number of attacks as the strong fighter, but less BAB, less damage, same ac (you get full dex , but less armor, and actually I think the ac goes up faster than the dex bonus, so you lose on armor.) The only thing you do get it a bit more movement, and full skills, which in combat can be fun, but really makes you wonder why you didn't play that half-orc. I would love to see some feats that increase damage with other scores. (maybe int, or dex) but not have it stack with str. You say that maks a mage pretty powerful. Not really as he dosen;t have the base attack bonus or the hitpoint, or number of attacks. You hear stories all the time about the small fast guy beating the big strong guy. In d&d this just dosen't happen.

Well, in light armor you have a speed of 30, as opposed to the lumbering chump in heavy armor who only has a speed of 20 and can only run 3x, not 4x. That's more than a bit, IMO. BAB isn't affected by Strength. Feats like Dodge, Expertise, Mobility, and Spring Attack help your AC and/or get you out of the oaf's way after you've taken a swing. Plus, the Strength-dependant feats only require a Strength of 13, which isn't really that high.

If he's built right, it can.

Are people suffering with 3.0?

Besides I never said I didn't understand the 3E rules I said I've only just begun to feel comfortable with them.

Gosh . . . you make a sincere comment and there's always someone ready to jump on you - KABOOM!

Gah! Redux.

If you're happy with 3e, then play 3e. If you don't want to convert to 3.5, then don't. It's very simple. Your "old" books won't combust. No jack booted stormtroopers will come and take them away. Play the game the way you ENJOY playing the game. No one is dictating what you HAVE to do at YOUR gaming table.
