My town finally has an FLGS!!!!

For as long as I've lived where I do, there's only been one place to buy gaming supplies; Hastings. Now don't get me wrong--I love Hastings. But I've wished for a local store, and now there is one! He's just getting started, but has a nice collection of older games and books, new stuff (of course) minis, dice, and if you're a re-enactor, tons of period material from uniforms to weapons. They also cast their own minis and dice! Woohooo!!!!!!

Before this, if I didn't to go Hastings, I bought from Walmart.com. Sure, it's cheaper, but I'm all about helping the little guy. The closest game shop to me was 30 miles away, and I refuse to patronize that store after the horrific customer service I received there. But now I have one just a few blocks from me! Woot!

Thats great! Do they let you use the casting machines or do they use these to sell customized mini's and dice?

I'm pretty sure they're using them to sell their own lines. The guy has some pretty big dreams, that's for sure, even wanting to publish his own gaming books. I wish him well!

Hey, congratulations! You know, another FLGS just opened in my town. And the one that's been there for 25 years is still going strong and turning a profit. For all the talk about the RPG "industry" being in the toilet, I frankly just don't see it.

I agree. There seems to be more ppl wanting to learn to play than there is enough room in games with experienced players to teach. Atleast around here that is the way it is.

I spoke to the guy for quite awhile. He said the absolute most astounding thing he's seen has been the clamor for 1e stuff. He said he can't keep used 1e stuff on the shelves. He'd just bought a large lot of DMG's, PHB's, and MM's from eBay, and they were gone within a week. 3e stuff can be found cheaper at Hastings or online, and he knows he'd have a hard time competing price-wise. But by offering hard to find items and a place to play, he's had really good success so far.
