My weapon is gonna wanna kill me!

First Post
Hey all,

I was wondering. My Cleric (lvl 16) has a morningstar (don't we all?) that is intelegent. Now this weapon contains an entrapped person which as i put xp in it, grows in power. Now, I have a few questions:
First: How can I prevent my weapon from taking control of me? lol Cause....i know its gonna happen soon :)

Second: The soul stuck into my weapon is about to get very angry (enraged mabey?) It doesn't know that my character is associated with his biggest enemy when he was alive (A god infused him into my weapon after an attack...lets say Mask wanted to teach him a lesson in humility!) Now i'm about to go meet with said enemy of his and there is no way I can keep him out of it. So, is there a spell or somthing that can rend an intelegint item not aware of its surrounding or something...basically i'm trying to avoid a clash between my weapon, myself and my ally.

Know what I mean?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, we are playing our next session on tuesday :)

Thanks,

Alex

Perhaps ask your DM if:
a) the Protection From Alignment spells protect against Intelligent Items taking over as they would stop a Charm Person
and
b) you can research an hour/level version of your favorite Protection From Alignment spell......

Maybe rub Int damaging poison on it? If its ability score is 0 it is not aware of its surroundings . . . Hmm, that won't work. IIRC intelligent weaponry / etc is typically treated as constructs, and such are immune to poisons, aren't they?

What if you simply cover the morning star, or leave it in your backpack (Silence'd first). If it can't see or hear what is going on around it, how could it know you are meeting with Mask (unless Mask makes it aware - and let's face it, your deity may just do that: 'checking in to see how your doing, have you learned your lesson yet?', in which case you really don't have much say on the matter; I don't think you can order your deity to not speak with the morning star)

Bust out the diplomacy skill, bargain with the guy.

Ask your DM if he'll let you treat the intelligent weapon that was formerly living count as a living subject for the purpose of a particular spell. If he says yes, eat a 500xp loss and try to nail your morningstar with an Atonement: Temptation to make his alignment match yours.

Then negotiate your balls off. *nod* :D

Hmm, what do you have to work with?

Is there a reason you can't just toss the morningstar in your bag of holding for the duration?
"Sorry Morningstar, I got a message that says I have to go to the meet unarmed for safety reasons. I'll be back in a couple of hours."

Do you have a decent Bluff Score?
"Remember Morningstar, this guy is a powerful illusion mage. You can't always trust what you see and he's likely to try to use you against me as a bargaining chip. I've got this blessed stone of protection from illusion but it won't work on us both so just keep quiet and I'll fill you in on what really happened afterwards."

Bag of holding would place it on an extradimentional plane. It's telepathic communication should be blocked by that.

I'd go with bluff/diplomacy, let the situation develop/resolve. You could bluff it that you are just using his enemy to your advantage. Or let them meet and resolve thier differences.

I like the silence it and put it in your backpack idea. The silence will be contained in your backpack.

Yeah unless the weapon has an empathic link to the user, in which case it's going to see and hear what he sees anyway.

Hey all..

Thanks for the replies so far :)

For the backpack/bag of holding part, i think thats the best idea. My cleric has an int of 8 and I made some bad choices at the begining so lets just say that a leaf on a tree will outbluff me :)

The weapon has empathy with me, so it will sense all i see...:(

As for the atonment, i think its a great idea, only the weapon is almost the same alignment as me. Its just trapped and so has no choice...the more i put xp in it, the more it gets stroinger....and i won't put xp in it if it sucks...so if it wants to be free, help me out..else, go in the trash :)

Protection from alignment spell is a good idea....:) Noted.

Any other thoughts would be great...i'm looking for more of a way to suppress the intelegence (like put it to sleep or something) instead of hiding it (lets just say that i'm sure my dm will find a way to make the weapon and the ally see each other.. :) )

Thanks,

Alex

Tell it that you are going to meet and work with it's former enemy, and that you are the master and it needs to be a good little weapon and act like a weapon rather than a living idiot.

If it gives you trouble, bend it over and throw it in some acid. That's probably the lesson he needed to learn anyway.

No weapon is good enough to be an obvious liability.
