My wife's Paladin's mount!

My wife has been putting off getting a bonded mount for her paladin for a few levels now because she wanted to get something different (using the rules in Defenders of the Faith). Well, then I bought Natural 20's In the Saddle, and she fell in love with the giant bunny (Riding Hare). She wanted her Aasimar Paladin to ride in battle on a giant battle bunny. Unfortuantely, it was only 1 HD, and she would have been a little cheated out of a better mount by choosing the bunny, so I offered to add a template or two to help raise it's CR so it's 3 less than her Paladin levels (per the Defenders of the Faith book).

And lo, Alexander the Half-Celestial Riding Hare of Legend is born... aka The Bunny God. I used the Monster of Legend template, and added a +2 to the CR, and then the Half-Celestial template to give it another +1, which gave it a CR of 4. Sure, the bunny won't be attacking much with it, but it sure isn't likely to get hurt very often. That, and it has wings! I've never seen my wife so happy after rolling up a character, much less an animal! Yes, it might be a little powerful (though I was using the rules), but it's major advantages are the carrying capacity, and the ability to fly. And fast healing...

The other players loved the bunny as well. :D I'm just so happy that they're having FUN, which is what the whole game is about.

(oh yeah, now the other player's are shopping for magic items out of IN THE SADDLE, as well as new mounts... GREAT BOOK!)

I'm torn between laughing and crying.

Reminds me of the last few lines of my 2nd Prize Winning Entry to the Dr. Seuss Poem Competition.

My PCs great, there is no doubt.
But greater PCs are about...

I know I’m right, I’ll stake my life
That the best PC’s the DMs wife!

All in good fun thundershot. I actually think it sounds kinda fun. And fuzzy.

LOL! Hey now, I would have helped any of my player's find a suitable mount. Of course, now they ALL want Battle Bunnies. :D

We haven't seen how Alexander does in combat yet, though he only has a bite attack, he does have a good amount of damage he can do with that if he did bite. My wife is going to start pumping her character full of mounted combat feats, and see how it goes. She doesn't expect him to see much combat. It's having him around interacting with people that makes it such fun. He sure won't get ignored...

You've apparently never been bit by a rabbit. :D Or maybe just not hard enough. Heh..

I only wish that there was a similar mount using a Guinea Pig. My wife and I are guinea pig lovers (we own six of them, and they're like children to us) and would LOVE to have a book that contained some guinea pig related creatures and items. (HINT HINT HINT to the authors of IN THE SADDLE... web supplement? :D)

Heh

Cute. It's always interesting seeing how the DM favors certain characters. For example, I'm the DM's girlfriend, so the other players were a bit suspicious when my rogue pickpocketed a Scroll of Wish off of some mage.

On the other hand, you don't need connections to have an ubermunchkin character. I have a halfdragon fighter who found an incredibly good artifact at 6th level - the Brilliant Greataxe of Annoyance. The greataxe talks, is +3, keen, and vorpal, and is much more intelligent than any of the characters, by far. It can de/activate any of the above abilities at will. The only problem is that if it ever gets ambitious and decides to take over my halfdragon, he'll be more or less unable to stop it. Ah, well ...

On, and to add - the DM for the second group, the one who gave me the greataze, chooses the oddest mounts for his paladin characters (he's a member of the group DMed by my boyfriend). So far, he's had a celestial toad, a rhinocerous, and a giant octopus.

But the giant bunny takes the cake.
