July 12, 2003 (Columbus, OH) -- Amascus, Inc. is proud to announce the formation of Myrik Games, a company dedicated to building challenging games for experienced gamers, under the authorization of the immensely popular d20 System Trademark License, based on the game Dungeons and Dragons®.

Myrik Games is pleased to issue a sneak preview of its premier product release, Tauralathan's Grimoire, a 36-page book of all new spells, prestige classes, feats, and magic items, compatible with the Dungeons and Dragons system.

Why develop a new d20 gaming company? "Myrik Games is our labor or love," said Andy Shockney, author of Tauralathan's Grimoire. "Dave and I have played this game together for over 15 years. We have supported the industry in a variety of ways, and this is yet another means for us to share the spoils of our loot with the rest of the world."

Tauralathan's Grimoire will be the first release during the summer of 2003, and will be followed by the second product release titled Mysteries and Magic, tentatively scheduled for release in the Fall of 2003. Mysteries and Magic is a 36-page book of distinctive and exceptional magic items. Each item will come complete with its own detailed history and twisted mystery that players will have to unravel in order to fully realize the power of these unique items.

"My entire gaming group has played together for ten to fifteen years. They're tactically sound, they love to maximize their characters, and they play well together," explained Andy, "but I end up spending too much time buffing and building up book modules or else my players will eat it for lunch! We want to create encounters, prestige classes, feats, and spells that can be used by the DM to help even the odds, and keep things challenging!"

Myrik Games is dedicated to building better games, geared for experienced gamers. "Our focus will be on the development of effects and artifacts that will be useful between levels 5 and 25, with a primary focus around the levels of 12 to 18," said David Wierbiki, creative director and artist for Tauralathan's Grimoire. "You'll have enough resources to be a force to reckon with, but the villains will become especially challenging and the adventure a wonderful nightmare."

All Myrik Games products will be compatible with the 3.5 Edition of the Player's Handbook for Dungeons and Dragons.

"We hope you enjoy being a part of our community, and our world," said Andy, "just as we have always enjoyed being a part of the ENWorld online community of gamers."

Um, so is Dungeons and Dragons. And you are using it without permission. Good luck there.

Is your website up? I got an empty webpage when I clicked the link.

The website worked fine for me.

I read threough ther priview and aside from the font being a little hard to read, it was very well done.

Woo-hoo!

Our first ever informal review. Thanks Crothian!

I'm glad you checked it out. I hope you enjoy it, and the full pdf upon it's release!

jmucchiello, excellent point. We'll get that update in there right away. Hello! Not using D&D for anything other than mentioning yee-old compatability...which it is, of course!

Re: Re: *** Myrik Games - Press Release ***

I don't believe that expressing compatibility with D&D in a press release is allowed, but I don't recall the specifics (if Clark reads this thread, I'm sure he can clarify things).

Anyway, for me the link works in IE6, but not in Mozilla 1.3 (which is somewhat ironic, given that that the site's "keywords" META tag is filled with terms like "Linux", "Red Hat", "KDE", etc.). You might want to check on that to make sure you aren't inadvertently losing out on customers that can't see the site. I can't see anything in the page source that jumps out at me as being problematic, but I'm not a big HTML guru, either.

Nothing showed up in Netscape 7 either.

Andy, not everybody uses Internet Explorer, and there are better wysiwyg html editors out there than Front Page. (I use GoLive5 but others swear by Freeway.)

Ah, I'm using Mozilla 1.4. That's the problem. Netscape. Mozilla. and Opera make up about 12% of my website's traffic. I doubt you intend to alienate 12% of your potential customers.

You also might want to get a .com address. People won't think to try the .net of your address if they are trying to recall it from memory. I just found out there's also a myrik communications company. You should look into myrikgames.com at a minimum as an alias for your normal address.

Looked at the site and I may be wrong but a few first impressions:

You need to have the d20 license avaialbe on your site or links somewhere and I did not see it anywhere.

I would be carefull about having D&D in the "logo" that may get you in trouble.

Having people have to register is a pain in the &^$% it may turn people off, you may just want to have the downloads ready without registering.

Ok, off to work again, good luck.
