Mystic Theurge needs spells

Hold person + Flaming Sphere (or any other spell that requires a reflex save) A wizard could normally do this, but as a cleric learns it as a 2nd level spell, its a more viable combination for a cler/wiz

Energy Protection + Fireball (just in case someone's hanging in your fireball radius. Requires a little bit of time, though)

Wall of Stone (wiz/cler 5) + Stone Shape (cler 3/wiz 4) = crunch

To add something more:

-Ultimate barbarian: Bull´s Strenght, Enlarge Person or Polymorph, Displacement (or Stoneskin), Prayer, Haste. Watch and enjoy.

-Untouchable Monk: Cat´s Grace, Owl´s Wisdom, Mage Armor, Shield of Faith. Plus Haste and Prayer. That adds to +11 AC, and enemies have -1 to hit (so it´s really +12)

Divine Favour/Shield of faith and Permenancy (just kidding!) .

If it's 'self' buffs, then the usual clerical suspects coupled with Greater Invisibility and Polymorph is a good combi. Although your low BAB/HP/No armour compared to a cleric could make this not such a good option... I'd buff other characters instead:

Polymorphing fighter characters. Then enlarging them. Greater invisibility or Displacement them as well. Add non detection. - although that's all arcane.

A funny combination can be freedom of movement coupled with wizardly 'area denial' spells - ex. Solid Fog, Web - this is a very lethal!

Offensively - Bane/Doom/Bestow Curse - i.e. lower saves. Then plane shift them to the Elemental Plane of Fire.

That's what Divine Power and Tenser's Transformation are for (BAB set to cleric or wizard caster level). A Wiz(3)/Cle(7)/MysTh(10) would get a BAB of +17 from Divine Power ...

Oh don't get me wrong, divine power and clerics make for great melee machines... righteous might/divine favour/shield of faith make it all even more amusing.

IMO a mystic theurge is more comparable to a wizard than a cleric in terms of durability. i.e. Low HP and no armour.

I was thinking back to some mages I've played, generally had better results buffing other party members than buffing myself... IME, most of the 'combat buff's for a mage are nice used on themselves, but are even better when cast on others... i.e. Polymorphing Fighters, Gt.Invisibile rogues, etc, etc.

It does mean more taking on the role of a support character, but I enjoy that and I think it's what they're really the best at. That's what I meant.
