Mystic Theurge with Druids?

Wildshaping sucks compared to the Druid spells.
It's all about augmented summoning, and the mystic theurge just
gives you more stuff you can do to your summons.

Oh, is that a pack of wolves or it that a pack of invisible, hasted wolves?

An interesting concept but you are taking a big power hit if you do not get 2+ rounds to prep up -- SNA + buff spell. A straight Druid has access to higher level SNA spells. I will happily match your d3 Hasted Dire Wolves with my 2d4 Dire Wolves, and I can cast a single spell to boot.

I would say this is a reasonable way to go for a PC who does not like melee in a large party. Summoning plus lots of buffs gives a lot of flexibility even if it is not powergamer optimal.

Have a look at the Arcane Hierophant from Races of the Wild. It gives +1 arcane/+1 divine spellcasting progression like the Mystic Theurge, allows arcane spellcasting in non-metallic light and medium armor, advances the wild shape ability, and grants a familiar companion that has the abilities of both a familiar and an animal companion (and advances in both).

Taking levels in both Mystic Theurge and Arcane Hierophant might be an interesting idea. A Druid 3/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 4/Arcane Hierophant 10 has the spellcasting ability of a 17th-level druid and a 17th-level wizard, can wild shape as a 13th-level druid, and has a familiar companion that combines the abilities of an animal companion of a 13th-level druid and the familiar of a 13th-level wizard.

The other one I looked at when making this combo was the Geomancer.

Wizard 3/Druid 3/Geomancer 4/Acrane Hierophant 10 gives you CL13 for both plus four floating levels you can add to one of the other caster. Companion familiar of 13/13. And, you can now swap 0-3rd level spells between each class, and can use your better stat for the DC on all said spells. Want to cast Summon Nature's Ally III? Dump your Lightning Bolt spell you have memorised. Seems pretty fun to me.

Isn't the sample ArcHie a Drd4/Wiz3 with wildshape?

-Hyp.

Yes. The line where it says "you gain no new ability to wildshape" is followed by a line that says that you add your ArcH levels to your Druid levels and determine your wildshape that way. The first line indicates that while a character with Trackless Step and ability to cast arcane and divine spells can become an ArcH, if you're not actually a druid, but got Trackless Step some other way, you don't get wildshape as a bonus. Only druids gain wildshape when their combined druid and ArcH levels equal 5 or more.

*wonders if maybe mentioning another druid/sorcerer class might be out of line...* Seeker on the Wind...course it's probably not as good as Arcane Hierophant.

what book is that in?

May not be optimal but I thought a
Druid 3/Wizard 3/Beaster Master 1/Arcane Hieraphant X
would be fun. The boost to the animal compinion that the beast master gives would be fun.

later,
Ysgarran.
