[Mythic Dream Studios] Dark Inheritance?

So is the magic in DI like the normal d20 modern magic or are there any changes?

Darke I assume you have already but check out the Eldritch Monk on their website. It is completely compatible with the existing rules in d20 Modern.

Cheers for all that. Being in New Zealand distribution through stores is both slow and a gamble. I will probably look to buy DI through the internet. If you are not planning to do any direct sales, are you planning to sell DI through any internet stores like Wizards Attic or Warehouse 23?

Dark Inheritance will be available for purchase on our website as we draw closer to the release date. I know we won't be available through Wizard's Attic but I'll look into Warehouse 23 and Talon Comics.

I thought on this over the weekend. I think I will give the PCs the choice once they witness the Rip. To choose to be a Titan the PC must forgo spend one feat and a number of skill ranks equal to their current level. One thing I like about DI is that it sounds like it can work with both Titans and non-Titans just as well.

That's a good idea and will allow those who want to play humans to do so.

As for other questions I have just one - is there anything in the setting that makes Moreaus or other gentically engineered creatures impossible?

There is absolutely nothing that prevents Moreaus of Franks from exisiting in Dark Inheritance. Genetic engineering and the whole concept of "playing god" is a key element for the setting. In fact, there is an entire advanced class based on gene therapy, the Super Soldier.

I would love to see a preview on the Rip as it seems so fundamental to the entire setting.

That's two for the Rip. I'll be sure to include a section on it, though not the full 12 pages that discuss it and the ramifications the event has had on the world.

Tonight I'll be updating this advanced class with the version that is in the book. There are a number of issues with the version currently on the site that were caught and corrected during playtesting. This will include the class illustration by Marcio Fiorito.

Information on the Wild Bloods would be cool!

Thanks in advance!

Today there is a brief synopsis of the Storm Crows, with the legacy portrait of Anders Sundholm (Storm Crow mercenary).

I'll do the Wild Bloods next Monday. :)

Purchase direct from your website suits me fine :) Thanks for all you answers.

I have a further question that should feel free to answer or ignore. It is a little more difficult :) Are the Titans descended from identifiable mythic beings (for example, a Valkyrie) or from a common element that has been incorporated differently by each culture. The Legacies seem reasonably broad and could be modified for different cultures.

Looking at a number of cultures' myths there are normally a number of common elements with slightly different spins on them. I assume that many of the elements are actually the same thing and the spin cast on them comes from the culture.

For example there is normally a good group and bad group in each culture (Norse called them Vanir vs Aesir; the Greeks - Titans vs Gods etc). Some relics appear common with cultural spins (for example a receptacle that gives life at cost with the Cauldron of Dagda, Holy Grail and Pandora's Box). End of the world and messiah concepts seem pretty common too. Sure their are specifics in each culture too.

The way I see it is that this shows that there has been a single conflict occuring down through the ages but that each culture has experienced different (or sometimes similar) parts of the conflict. This is why some common elements exist as well as specifics.

The reason I am asking is that writing a backstory to the PCs I was looking to draw upon historical elements and would prefer the flexibility of looking at beings that are common in many cultures (but with a spin from each culture).

Hope that came out coherently :D

Wow

This sounds like a great setting. I really like it and will be picking it up as soon as my bookstore gets it (limited funds). I am going to go scower the web site in a bit for all the info I can. But I must say that you all did a great job creating a very very intresting setting. Can't wait to get it.

The Progenitors of the titan legacies were individuals (or pairs) as described in the write-ups for each legacy; however, they are not "a Valkyrie" or "Aphrodite" or "Tammuz". The human memory of the Progenitors and their direct offspring, "The Children of Might" were incorporated into various cultures differently. Some cultures identified a Progenitor as a demon, while others, a god. Many cultures split a Progenitor into multiple different deities, such as Aphrodite, Hera, Eros, etc. The gods and demons of myth are specific archetypes taken from the stories past down from the Lost Age, when the Progenitors walked alongside mankind.

This is mostly true as many legends of such cosmic conflict reflect the lost memory of the Progenitors' war against the Host. But who the "good guys" were (and are) and who the "bad guys" were among the Progenitors is not consistent between cultures.

It did and you're idea will definately work. There's nothing you said that is incompatible with what is in the Dark Inheritance book. Hope this helps

Cheers again Chad. It helps alot. It appears that my thoughts on DI match yours closely which is all good :)

I currently have a group formed and we are starting in a few weeks. The players have zero knowledge of the setting so it should be fun. I am also using a varitey of mythic stories as inspiration for the PCs such as Brynhild's suicide (Norse), Herne/Coyote (Celtic and American Indian) and even the Ba Sin (Chinese).

Thanks for the compliment EdwardForrester!

Just a small cross-post. The first PDF previews for Dark Inheritance are up on the Mythic Dreams Studios website.

The Wild Bloods Birthrights look cool.
Though I see some from the previous one. Who's Brithrights are they?

I really like the story of the Rip.

I really want to finish the story of what happen in Central Park.

Cant wait to get the book. :)
