I watched a TV show.
The show centered around an island and the strange events occurring on it and on the mainland.
Some of the characters were from the island and some weren't from the island. At one point, one of the characters who wasn't from the island was revealed to, in fact, be from the island and merely masquerading as one of the non-island people.
Each episode featured flashbacks, these flashbacks tying to the main story being told in the present day.
One of the characters was sort of a mentor-type guy who knew more than he was letting on. Late in the first season, this guy was obsessed with opening a hidden, locked door. When he finally opened it, he went inside and discovered a computer and a man who seemed to be a bit crazed.
One of the characters from the island ran the whole show on the island. He was a ruthless individual who manipulated the people around him for his own reasons, these reasons being unknown to the viewers and to most of the other characters on the show.
The island had barracks for the people living on the island, as well as a church, a lighthouse, a central fortress with high walls, and a dock where a sea-going vessel regularly visited the island.
The show wasn't afraid to kill off important characters.
