Named swords in Tolkien include not only Glamdring ("Forehammer") and Orcrist ("Goblin-Cleaver"), but also Aranrúth ("King's Ire"), Narsil ("Moonfire"), Anduril ("Flame of the West"), and others I can't remember. Théoden's sword was named in the chapter set in Edoras in which Gandalf healed him; and the pair of black, iron-cleaving swords made by Éol are named in his chapter--one is renamed by Turin after he kills Mablung with it.

Hmm... there's Aeglos (sp?), Gil-Galad's spear.

We have a few named swords in our campaign. I try to name every weapon I carry, though I'm horrible with names.

Steel Rose
Soul Needle
Silvertooth
Moonrazor
Light of Reason

Two that are or might be from third-party sources:

Crimdrach
Fedifensor

Others in the party may name their weapons, but they don't refer to them in play. Pity, it's cool. We know that when the party cleric/paladin brandishes Steel Rose, he's going to kick tail.

Eh isoChron, you forgot The Silencer of Bodash ;)

The Silencer (of Bodach) is one of three swords in the Dark Sun campaign world. Each is a major artifact forged by Rajaat himself.

The Silencer was wielded by Irikos "the Left Hand of Rajaat". Supposedly he was the one meant to commit genocide against the orcs (which is odd, since Uyness of Waverly aka Abalach-Re was the one known as "Orc Plague"). The Silencer became known as The Silencer of Bodach when Irikos attacked that city for its neutrality in the Cleansing Wars. Irikos died in the battle, but not before turning the entire city into a slaughterhouse, where the dead still rise every night.

The Scourge was given to Borys of Ebe (the Dragon) to finish off the dwarves. It later became known as The Scourge of Rkard after Rkard, a dwarven leader, was killed by the blade, but not before taking it from Borys. Rikus later snapped the blade to use its composite black essence-of-shadow to sent Borys to the Hollow where Rajaat killed him.

The Scorcher was the sword given to Hamanu to eliminate the trolls. He later used it to deliver the killing blow to Dregoth, and then had to discard the blade do to pressure from the other Champions.

Of those three blades, only The Silencer can harm Hamanu of Urik, since he was not one of the original Champions.
