Napoleon Dynamite

I thought Napoleons gift was
animal husbandry
. He is amazingly good at it. In fact I find that to be the point of his character and all the other characters, they don't know where their talents lie. I think the movie essentially says "are you willing to let go of your fantasy?" We see that Napoleon denies his talents in favor of a fantasy life. But what becomes apparent is that the other characters are all doing the same thing. They are dwelling on the unreal even though it is not as apparant. In fact the only real person at the film's beginning is Pedro.

The funny thing is how he thinks his gift is one thing (drawing) but it really turns out to be something else. Revealed at the end. Even when he does it he doesn't even quite realize he's doing it or that it's anything all that special.

I dunno, Mrs. Noah and I laughed a lot. :)

This is definitetly a "love it" or "hate it" movie. Personally, I loved it. My brother and I quote it all the time.

"Your mom goes to college."

I was dumbfounded by it. I missed the first 7-10 mins the first time I watched it.. I was flipping channels and noticed it and though "hey, I've heard good things about this". So I watched it.

It was... odd  But I had to watch it. about 1/2 way in, the Mrs. came in and asked what I was giggling about, and I could NOT explain it to her. I asked her to sit and just watch.. she... like me.. was glued.

Any movie that can do that, has got to be good on some level. I have since watched it again, just so I could pick up on all the odd bits (the Time Machine, Liger, and the relationship between Pedro and Tina, Kip and his on-line dating).

The movie really did have many aspects that where good. Yes, the acting was stiff, but I really think it was ment to be that way. I'd have to give it 4 blood axes out of 5. because it really took my by suprise how much I enjoyed it.

With a film like this, I am usually in the "loved it" crowd. But in this case I simply couldn't understand why people liked it. The laughs were few and far in between. And there was no reason to keep me watching. I felt that Napolean was an unlikable jerk with little to know redeeming values. I couldn't stand watching any longer so I didn't see it through to the end, which is INCREDIBLY rare for me. The bottom line was that it wasn't entertaining me in any way.

If someone wants to spoil his "special gift" or why the movie was good in the last 15 minutes for me, please do. :)

The only fun part for me was seeing the computer geek, Mac, from Veronica Mars in a different role. I liked her awkward teenager character, a far cry from her genius character from VM. And, oh yeah, I laughed when Napolean got the steak whipped at him. That's about it. I'm glad I didn't buy or even rent the DVD. Saw it on HBO.

He's got more moves than John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever!
