Nasty weapon idea...

I was thinking of creating a magical whip made from the antennae of rust monsters.

Imagine the surprise on someones face after getting hit! Priceless. Of course, I would probably reserve it for a BBEG or at least one of the henchmen...

Just keep in mind how powerful this will be if the PC's ever get their hands on it. For instance, iron golems become worthless. Rusting away the armor or shield of a high-level cleric who has cast magic vestment will significantly affect that cleric. And so on. Most players will try not to destroy too much good treasure, but that just means they'll save this for the times when it's most needed - like when you've planned an epic battle with a BBEG.

You can always say the Rust Monster's antennae dry out after a while so the whip loses its rusting ability. The bad guys would need a supply of antennie (sp?) to keep the whip going.

The more I think about it, the better that idea sounds. Else why wouldn't mages have antennae rapped around their staffs? Or, worse, since the MM says any weapon that hits the body of the creature also rusts what if someone made leather out of its skin? Ouch.

Or just have it lose it's effect after so many uses since it's not attatched to the Rust Monster anymore.
Which is what would actually happen. You could use it as a component on a magic item with a permanent rusting grasp effect, though. You might even get 10% off the cost of making the item (though not the xp). Rusting grasp, always on; I don't feel like calculating the cost right now, but it would be pretty darn expensive...
