LOL.

Morrus, I am in the process of having the cover drawn up by our resident artist for "Three Arrows for the King - The Archer's Guide", for release in late first quarter 2003.

So, shall we combine efforts here?

Three Arrows for the King? Sounds sort of like an adventure for your assassins.

Tsk, Tsk Tsk Tensen that would be " Three Arrows IN the King" :D

Well it is Three Arrows For the King (need to delivery them before they are IN the king)... until the end of the adventure.... Unless you are running the adventure after the king is already dead.. Hmm, a game of political intrigue, as you try and hide, and watch all the people try and game power during the aftermath.

Archers eh?

I guess you've got lots of options here but may need to kick it up to around 80 pages.

We've got the the Archer from Soverign Stone and the specific feats they have.

There are several archer based PrCs in Librum Equitis.

Lots of archery feats in Mercenaries and a few other books.

Evil's got that weird Blood Archer. THe OGL's got the Arcane Archer.

Q. Elf I think had some stuff for archers of all types.

One of the Diomin books had a weird feat that allowed you to make AoO against those who passed within 30' but didn't allow you to use rapid shot with it so it's like... are you going to hold you're rapid shot or ?

Information on using exisiting core feats to simulate an archer would be a nice step.

Information on using core feats plus extra feats would be another good step.

So at least one archer core class, ideas for using exisiting core classes as archers, collection/expansion of feats, collection of mundane arrows, bows, (different woods perhaps?), quivers, armors and other mundane items. Magic versions of said items. Feat Chains where you gain a minor benefit depending on the chain you take and the option to focus on that chain with a feat ala HoHF: Dwarves? Other goodies? Ah, lots of ideas here...

Perhaps some ideas on the role of the archer as well. Anything from trained woodsman to sniper could be covered. Perhaps some ideas on why they went out of style as well? I believe it was training requirements, but how do you simulate that in a game where fighters get all weapons unless you make it an exotic weapon?

Arrows tended to fall out of style when heavier armor started to be worn.... And then got replaced by firearms, which made the heavy armor obsolete. Typical of how warfare evolves.

Of course the fact that the possible remains of history showed that English archers pulled extremely heavy bows. And that longbows never were very heavily used other than by the English, who had good strong Yew to support the extra weight... the prevalence of Longbows in most campaigns is a lot stronger than supposedly occured in medieval times.

In truth if you wanted to try and do game balance... you'd make any instance of a longbow, be a strength bow. This would definitely limit the number of instances where you see an elven sorceror pull out a longbow with a 9 strength and use it effectively. But is that fun?

Here is the rough cover draft we have. We are planning on it containing an archer core class, several prestige classes, a whole slew of magic arrows and bows, archery feat chains, and variant types of arrows, bows, etc.

EDIT: updated art
