D&D 3E/3.5 Natural 20 Question (3.5)

Digressing further, since the OP has been satisfactorily answered:

An interesting house rule I've seen in use is that in opposed checks, a nat 20 adds 10 to your overall result, while a nat 1 reduces it by 10. That way, those "special" rolls keep being special, but you take away the "what if" problem stated by StreamOfTheSky.
What do you think of that?
