natural armor bonus

To lay it down very simply.

Most natural armor bonuses are designed to give you just that, a bonus. An amulet of natural armor gives you +3 natural armor. However, natural armor bonuses do not stack with other natural armor bonuses. So for example, the tarrasque has a huge natural armor bonus, that wouldn't stack with that amulet of natural armor.

The spell barkskin is worded differently. The reason is the designers want you to be able to use the spell when you already have natural armor. So you cast barkskin on the tarraque, and it would get the bonus.

Ahem :)

Amulet of Natural Armor: This amulet, usually crafted from bone or beast scales, toughens the wearer’s body and flesh, giving him an enhancement bonus to his natural armor bonus of from +1 to +5, depending on the kind of amulet.

So you cast barkskin on the tarraque, and it would get the bonus.

Only if you beat SR 32!

Or, more likely, accidentally eats a potion of barkskin?

Even if I accidentally drink a potion (say it was diguised as a shot of brandy), doing so is a standard action that provokes an AoO. A successful AoO requires a Concentration check from me, even though I had no idea I was imbibing a potion.

...so back to the Tarrasque: if it accidentally drinks a potion, does everyone around it get an AoO? ;)
