[Necro/JG] Player's Guide to Wilderlands in Dungeon/Poly

As most of you who have seen me post before are aware, i am pretty much as much a Necromancer fanatic as Nightfall is for, um, whatever that setting is. :D
I heard that! :) And for the record Necromancer Games is KING of modules in my book. Oh yeah and they do great monster books too. ;)

We have been getting some good anecdotal feedback from people who noticed the Dungeon/Poly article. Strangley, it seems one of the bumps has been that game store types are now more aware of it.

Funny story about the Players Guide. Chris Boll (one of NEcromancer's cartographers) used to live with us, but he moved out a little over a year ago. When Necromancer sends him books we still get them here in Iowa even tho he's moved back to Ohio. This means that I got both the Player's GUide and Lamentation of Thieves in the mail the other day heh.

The Player's Guide looks very nice and I'll make sure to read it more thoroughly later as I've just given it a few quick readthroughs and I'm perfectly fine with the balance issues inherent in the game. There's a ton of races available and it looks interesting. One shot of this would be fun, altho I have plans to run a coupla one shots of Arcana Unearthed first as I've really loved that since it was released.

The other book (Lamentation of Thieves) was a let down in one area at least...the maps. No offense to Jason Carlton (cartographer for the module) but the maps just don't compare with Chris's work. Then again I've been Chris's friend since 94 so I'll admit to some bias. I realize that first edition feel sometimes means maps taht look like earlier editions, but I've always felt that maps are one area that can stay updated *grin*

Compare Chris's maps (found in Maze of Zayene 2, What Evil Lurks, and I believe Vault of Larin Karr...or Chaos Rising I forget and don't have copies of those 2 to compare) and see the difference for yourself

Hagen-

Dont you think you ought to forward those on to Chris?

If you want to see a sample of the maps from the Player's Guide, done by Rob Lee, go visit the Judges Guild page www.judgesguild.com and you can view the whole world map.

Actually since this has happened before, the system we set up was to open and see if it was important and give them a call. He told me to just hang onto the books for now as he thinks they'll be out to visit in March or April.

I will pop over and look at that world map tho.

Its actually doing great. And it has been submitted to Origins for award consideration, which is really a cool thing. Lets hope we win!

I'm hoping/praying with you!

A had an epiphany on another thread about old 1e games. This setting (WL) has brought those old feelings back to the surface. It is good to be young again!

I'm really happy to hear Wilderlands is doing well. I'm one of the 'new' folks you mention that are drawn to the world. I have played the original Dark Tower (one of my all time favorites) and another adventure called Maltese Clue a long time ago, but I never knew then that there was a Wilderlands to go with them.

By the way, if you publish a 'Return to the Dark Tower', that would be the ultimate in cool. I'd certainly buy it.

Speaking of Necromancer Games being the King of Adventures. I agree!

That brings up a quick question: Are the lands/places mentioned in previous NG adventures (i.e. Quail Valley in Larin Karr, for example) detailed somewhere in the Wilderlands? If not, will it be easy enough to fit these previous adventures into the setting somewhere?

You guys are doing such great work!
Thanks a bunch.

All I can tell you is I am having as easy a time putting my Necro modules into the Wilderlands as i would putting them into any other campaign world. Actually, easier, since there are so many "empty" areas to easily put these modules into.

I am using Crucible, Barakus, Vault, Morrick, RA 1-3, and ToA.
