Necroscope series.

Has anyone read Necroscope series by Brian Lumley?

I am currently into 2/3rd of the first book, and enjoying it. I am fond of the bad guy, Borys Dragosani, it is interesting that he seems more developed than the "good" protagonist, Harry Keogh.

Story moves quickly, which is an interesting change after the likes of Robert Jordan. And Lumley`s portrayal of Vampires is great, refreshing after Anne`s Rice characters, which are a bit annoying on the long term. Those Vampires are terrible, mysterious, alien and awe-inspiring, while at the same time following tradtions of good old Dracula.

I wonder how good are next parts of this Saga.

I've read the first two series. The first is five books, but the tone changes significantly somewhere in the third. It's still good, but a bit different. The second series is three books and very interesting, but flows very much from the set-up of book 5 of the first series.

I've read these books and agree with what Mercule says. For me the series really took off after the third book. I always found it funny how fast those books read compared to how thick they are

I read them from time to time and quite like them. The concepts in them are brilliant and terrifying to me--the florid writing and annoyingly bland and flawless heroes less so. One thing that got a bit annoying was Lumley's habit of finishing each book by totally annihilating the vampire presence, then needing to find some cheesy way to bring some of them back for the next sequel. If he could get the hang of recurring villains, the series would benefit considerably.

The first couple of books, to me, read like the description of a RPG campaign where the GM was planning for a low-key espionage game with paranormal undertones, and then one player brings in his lovingly minmaxed munchkin character more suited for a superhero game. And another player makes a character from a completely different genre.
