Need 1st level adventure recommendation

Everyone,

I am going to be starting a new campaign soon and I was looking for a great 1st level adventure to kick things off. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am currently just finishing up with an Age of Worms campaign and I know I only have a few months before 4E, so my group is not looking for something long term like a new adventure path. However I did buy Cormyr: Tearing of the Weave and I would like to use that one, but it starts at 4th level and I need a quick, easy, place for the players to stretch their legs, get to know their new characters, develop bonds with each other and get ready to Rock.

I personally think that the first few levels are the most important when it comes to character development. If the beginning is lame, the rest will be as well... so this is pretty important.

Any recommendations?

You could try the following:

Hollow's Last Hope - Paizo Publishing
Wicked Fantasy Factory - Rumble in the Wizard's Tower - Goodman Games
Bleeding Edge #1 - Mansion of Shadows

The Dungeon Crawl Classics lines has a few useful ones as well. Of the above, Rumble in the Wizard's Tower is the best. It's a very different module, but it's one of the most cinematic and fun ones I've seen in a while.

Pinotage

Freeport trilogy, five year anniversary 3.5 edition. I just read through most of the 1st level intro one last night, Death in Freeport, and it is pretty good.

The recommended levels are 1, 2-5, and "at least 4" for the three sections.

+1

Plus you can download it free! (at least you could the other day)

D0 - Hollows Last Hope strung together with D1 - Crown of the Kobold King is a fun read, I'd like to run it someday but can't speak to how playable they are. I have stolen parts of D1 for a Ptolus adventure.

I have had a lot of fun with Siege of the Spider Eaters (Dungeon #137), it's a bit different. I think I used A Dark and Stormy Knight as an intro to that, and then wrapped up in DCC #3 - The Wizards Tower.

Edit: Ah, and Funeral Procession (Dungeon #135) is good for an urban adventure that could devolve into something horrific... plus it's set in saltmarsh, so you could segway into U1/U2/U3 from there with some conversion work.

Wizards Amulet from Necromancer games. If you buy Crucible of Freya, you'll have a mini campaign setting for level 1-15.

Check it out, it's free and rocks. Pregen chars with background.

I say just start 'em at 4th level. 1st level is boring.

I say this, however, only because I can't think of any way to pitch War of the Burning Sky to you, given your stated needs. *grin*

Enjoy Cormyr. I hear it's fun.

I found "Transmuter's Last Touch" by Goodman Games to be quite a blast. Of course, that's partially because kobolds are my favorite monster as a DM.

The adventure is relatively simple. The party locates a lair and goes in. However, there are some really interesting things that the kobolds get up to in there. (I won't say what because of spoilers.)

Best of all, it's cheap. It's one of Goodman Games' $2.00 introductory modules.

"Aldriv's Revenge" from Kenzer is a pretty good 1st-3rd level adventure that can be plopped into any decent kingdom that borders a not so good one. It's a good mystery and it has some pretty good NPCs to add flavor, and an interesting final villain.
