need a little st cuthbert dogma help

First Post
so my groups first official campaign in the dm's shiny new homebrew started tonight. he is just using the greyhawk pantheon because he hates making pantheons. my character is millitary trained and has been recently kicked out due to a decision he made based on his religion vs the rules of millitary service.

now i have dieties and demigods and have read through the 30 word description of st cuthbert's dogma. i am hoping that someone who knows more then was listed there can give me a little help coming up with a viable scenario in which a zealous follower might come into such a conflict. i need it to be a rational decision, not just he f####d up and got kicked out.

it cuts me off if i try to go to long, i'll include some setting specific stuff in a second post

in the kingdom

there are very strict rules governing the difference between law enforcement and millitary jurisdiction. millitary have no power in civilised areas but on the roads and wilderness they are the law.

when you join the millitary, you get a tatoo that marks you as such, if you leave under good circomstances, the tatoo is signifigantly altered to not look much like the original but to clearly mark you as ex millitary.

the punishment for getting kicked out of the millitary is a branding across the tatoo that is bandaged until the scar is permanent and then you are let out. the branding means that you can never wield a weapon inside that kingdom under punishment of death, even in self defence. farming tools (scythe, grain flail and sickle) and walking (quarter) staves are not considered weapons so my character (level 5 fighter) is not totally screwed but it's not a decision that would be made lightly.

Hello Mr Jolly Ninja!

Well I'm looking at the Living Greyhawk Gaz and it talks about weakness in faith and acting againsts the Saint's teachings are intolerable. They are plain folk who speak their mind plainly. The word of the Cudgel are law to believers. So Having been ex-military myself:D I can see several ways that this can play out. The Han Solo way in which your pc is thrown out for having the convection to point out something the military doesn't want the general populace to know. Or since beleivers are supposed to convert others this would cause friction in disrupting morale. Perhaps the pc "showed" a senior the "ways" of wisdom through a sound drubbing-totally necessary of course. Perhaps disobeying an order that wasn't Lawful but that's kinda back to Han Solo now isn't it. If I can help with anything else let me know I LOVE GREYHAWK!
