Need a Monster Book Suggestion

Monsternomicion is nice...but it's 2 things) 1) Lots of steampunk 2) Not 3.5 compatible at the moment.
LOTS of steampunk? Er, no. There's lots of constructs, true, but is an iron golem steampunk? Sure mechanithralls (steam-powered undead with Popeye fists) and iron liches (a lich with a furnace) count as steampunk-y, but no other entries I can think of belong to that genre.

The cover makes it look steampunk-y, but inside there's tasty goodness for all.

And you wouldn't say an Iron lich isn't steam punk then Bar? Just saying there is some elements of steampunk? Is it like buying a book that is completely steampunk? No. But it's there BECAUSE this is the Iron kingdoms we are talking about.

XC,

CC Revised just covers what was in CC1 with a few variations. CC2 isn't revised and is not in that revision. Lastly as I said there are no plans that I know of to revise CC2 at this time. Should they? Hell yes. But I don't know that will happen.

Sorry, I was trying to say that the iron lich IS steampunk-y, along with the mechanithralls. Two entries in the book. Not "lots".

Sorry if my meaning was unclear. Iron Lich == steampunk-y.

But Scarred Lands rocks!

:D

I'll echo the Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary- probably the most used monster book I have. It has tons of great beasties, along with 2-3 adventure plots given for each one. It is 3.0, but thats not a big deal.

Tome of Horrors is great too- its a no frills monster book though. No adventure ideas given, but it has loads of great critters.

Gotta pimp GR's upcoming Book of Fiends too. If you like demons, devils, and daemons (and who doesn't), you can't go wrong with this book. It mashes together Legions of Hell, Armies of the Abyss, and the new Hordes of Gehenna into one huge hardback. I think its due out in Jan.

1. Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary
2. Dangerous Denizens (Kalamar monster book - written for 3.5)
3. Tome of Horrors
4. Any of the Creature Collections by Sword & Sorcery (except the unrevised CC1 - make sure you get the revised version).

Don't need to snivel to get a favour. Just ask. :p :)

Like some of the lists here.

I'll jump in say that CC1 and CC2 are quite good and could be used for any setting, not just Scarred Lands. The Tome of Horrors is also quite good and have plenty devils and demons.

The BEST monster book EVAH. Awesome awesome awesome.

Cool animals, cool undead, cool constructs, cool all round. Seriously, this is one cool book.

I gotta second this...its pretty good

Monsternomicon
Liber Beastarius
Tome of Horrors

I have EVERY monster book that has been published in the last three years. Those three are the only non-WoTC products that I repeatedly turn to.

CC and CCII are okay as well, and I have no complaints, i just don't use them as much.

Also, lest I forget, the Monsters of Norrath for the Everquest game is something I have turned to on many occasions. The Amygdalin Knights were perfect when my Epic PC's took on a Mind Flayer city.
