need animal themed reward...

wow, right on - thanks peoples.

Since the challenge used only attribute based skill checks, and the party is 2nd level, I think I'll go with a +2 to a given attribute skill check, and being able to speak with the animal type.

The spirit animals in question were giant wasp, and gold fish (not giant). Yes they were determined randomly at the start of the mini-game, and maybe now you may see why the illusion thing isn't totally fitting.

Might build on it, though "We were all in the same school of gold fish in a past life" isn't really epic material to plan a campaign too. Unless you all have some ideas on that as well.

As I recall, goldfish- along with koi- are just a subspecies of Carp.

Perhaps, at the heroic level, they are goldfish...but as they advance, they go up the "carp" hierarchy.

Until, eventually, they can take on the (illusory? real?) form of a Carp Dragon at epic levels.

For the Goldfish, I would consider giving the PCs bonuses to swimming and if a PC falls into water and drowns to the point of unconsciousness, they suddenly float belly up to the surface (even if in armor) where they can breathe and can easily be rescued (or captured I suppose).

For giant wasp, bonuses to their sense of direction, perhaps a bonus to saves against poison.
