Need help, 5th Lvl Character for Underdark

Angerland

First Post
Folks, I am looking for some help with classes/feats for a 5th level character to play in a short 4 session game taking place in the Underdark.
I have two ideas roaming though my head so help with either would be great.

1st: A "Kratos" (God of War) build would be a lot of fun. I have never played any kind of spiked chain character and I think it would be cool to do so before 4th ed really takes off.

2nd: A build that will be moving into Assassin at 6th level.

Race wise I was thinking human or Half-elf (drow) to make things a bit easier for any multiclassing etc... but maybe even 1/2 Orc to get some darkvision and a strength bump?

I really want to minmax either of these out. I normally don't powergame but our group is looking to smash back against the Dm for this short campaign. We all think it's a great time to pull out all the stops. Other party members are a Minotaur Druid using the class variant from PHBII ( yes I am serious), a two weapon weilding dwarven fighter, a halfling fighter/rogue type, and a halfling warlock. I know the party isn't quite optimal but it should be fun!

Any help and tips would be great.

If you want a reach/AoO character, fighter is absolutely necessary because it's such a feat intensive path. In general, you'll be looking to create a mix of three things:
1) As much reach as possible.
2) As many AoOs as possible.
3) As much attack/damage as possible.

Depending on your priorities, there are many different ways to combine those.

Check out the Mineral Warrior template in FR Underdark, only LA+1 for DR 8/adamantine and a few other things. Could describe yourself as stoney ash colored with veins of color, for that real kratos look :o

Nothing annoys my DM (or me as DM) more than a spiked chain. Closing is just such a pain when you just want to get in and do some damage before getting wiped out, and your attack becomes step-step-step-"AHA!!! Freeze, sucka!" -Trip, wallop!

If you're going for a chain then Swordsage is a great choice and Spiked Chain is a preferred weapon for Shadow Hand.

Warlock

Human (for the extra feat)

3 least evocations {Devil's Sight (allows you to see normally in normal and magical darkness or See the Unseen (darkvision and see invisibility) each last 24 hours, eldtrich spear (increases range to 250 ft), Sickening blast (target must make Fort save of be sickened for 1 minute)}

1 lesser {either fell flight (fly for 24 hrs) or flee the scene (dimension door w/ major image)}

Feats:
1st level - Fiendish Heritage (from CM) - +4 bonus of Fort saves versus poison and +1 on saves against spells or other effects from good creatures)

Human Bonus - Fiendish Power (from CM) - CL and save DCs for evocations increase by 1

3rd level - Fiendish Resistance (from CM) - acid and fire resistance = 3 x number of fiendish feats and it stacks with other resistances from type, subtype, race or class

Or go with PBS and precise shot - but that Fiendish Power (has Fiendish Heritage as a prereq) is real tasty.

5th level warlock gets:

EB damage of 3d6

Detect Magic at will

DR 1/cold iron

Can take 10 on UMD check even if distracted or threatened

With a Totemist from Magic of Incarnum you can have the Girallon Arms Soulmeld bound to your Totem Chakra which will give you 4 Claw attacks. With the Expanded Soulmeld Capacity Feat you would be able to put up to 3 Essentia into this Soulmeld which will make each of these Claws +3 Weapons and give you a +6 Competence Bonus on Climb and Grapple checks. At level 6 you will be able to place up to 4 Essentia increasing the Claws to +4 and the Competence Bonus to +8.

From the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords you can take the feats Martial Study (Counter Charge) and Martial Stance (Step of the Wind). Now you can negate an Opponents Charge once per battle and move over Difficult Terrain continously and gain bonuses against Opponents who are in Difficult Terrain! :D :cool:

Other Soulmelds will be able to get you a variety of other abilities as well. Rageclaws will let you stay conscious into the Negative Hit Point Range and can even extend the point you die at to below -10! You can get big bonuses to a large number of Skills or to Hit Points or to your Armor Class with a variety of Bonus Types.
