Need help building...Flint Fireforge!

I may be mixing editions here, but as I recall, Rangers who take Human as their favored enemy can (DM discretion) take an affiliation or group as their favored enemy. Given that you're in Dragonlance, would he consider allowing Wizards of High Sorcery (or specifically White, Black, or Red Robes) as a favored enemy?

Or, take Human as a favored enemy. Chances are good that you won't see many non-Human Wizards (especially if he's ripping direct from 2e - as I recall, only humans, elves, and half-elves were permitted to be Robe mages)...

I think you're right about the affiliations, but I'm not sure which sourcebook it's from (I think Complete Adventurer OR Complete Scoundrel, but it could also be CityScape....).

However, I'm more interested in being able to do more damage to Dragons. (They are, after all, spellcasters....)

Although I might be wrong about the number of dragons we're going to face.
I have played DragonLance for a very short period before, 1st edtion, later in the campaign, but with the same DM, who is now starting over using 3.5, and we DID get to fight a dragon. So, I'm naturally expecting to encounter Dragons. Please don't give me any spoilers though. I'm happy with my choices.

Still looking for post-12th level ideas and skill assignment suggestions.

I think you'll face more Draconians here and there than true Dragons who are the leaders, if you take favored enemy dragons it will be fine.

Plenty of dragons in those classic modules, and most of them are bosses early on. One you start finding dragonlances, the frequency of dragons will increase. With all the draconians you'll be fighting, favored enemy (dragon) is a very wise choice, and it goes well with the flavor of the campaign as well.

Thanks for the pointer on draconians. I knew of them, just didn't know they had the Dragon type.

I still have to get my DM's approval for the Favored Enemy though, and since he's currently Hiking in Norway, I'll have to wait untill he returns. Which is probably only a few days before the next session.

On the other hand, I need to gain two levels before it even becomes an issue, so I guess it can wait.

Still looking for skill allocation ideas.

Also still wondering what to do past lvl 12

Flint is your typical Dwarven Warrior, pretty much cut and pasted from Gimli of LotR fame (of course, Dragonlance is essentially one giant LotR rip-off, but both are now classic tales, so there you go).

You don't know much about Flint Fireforge then.

Other than being a dwarf, there's nothing in particular that makes them the same character.

I agree, Flint is fatherly with his fellow travelers, he suffers from arthritis, he also think that he is too old to adventure now.
I started last week to read again the Dragonlance sage, did it 20 years ago and I also played Elistan the priest and Laurana at the start of the campaign before we stopped :.-(.

After 12th

Deepwarden from Races of Stone is a very strong core strength class.

Stone Lord fits for an older introspective dwarf (and can add a good extra damage sourse for 2wpn fighting and some sweet DC st by con save or scupered spells).

If the dragonomicon is allowed the dragonstalker is pretty sweet but the above are really nice and a bit more spiritual for an older dwarf in touch with his dwarveness.

Also dwarven paragon levels are in the srd (and unearthe arcarna) and really fit for an iconic dwarf: SRD - Racial Paragon

The DM sounds quite reasonable and might really like you taking levels in that 'iconic dwarf' class.
